  • You failed to read what I said.

The difference is, i'm not calling all concerns "rubbish" and arrogantly saying I no better than everyone else. I'm just raising concerns that I have and for people to look into it and make their own mind, not blindly rubbishing everyone that doesn't agree with me.

Some people raise concerns over things and suggest people look into it, others just arrogantly say its all fine and any concerns are rubbish.

I read what you wrote perfectly well. You stated that sasquacco had the credibility of a spotty teenager and had no qualifications in science, engineering or law.

What's this about rubbishing people who don't agree with you?! Astonishing :rotfl:

    Thats one interpretation. ;)

The other being that someone can not arrogantly dismiss all others concerns as "rubbish".

Hello, I note that radiation has come into it again.
It works like a mobile phone, so there's no more radiation from a smart meter than there is from a mobile phone. I'm sure most of us don't walk around with a smart meter in our hand, purse or pocket like we do with a mobile phone. Likewise I haven't seen any smart meters that you can hold up to your ear either.

Do you honestly think that your info from using credit cards, bank staements, loans, loyalty cards or even your phone (mobile or not) isn't being data mined or sold. What about the info that the DVLC sells and the electoral register - the least of my worries is someone looking at my leccy bill.

And yes, perhaps it would be a good ide to turn some people's power off if they aren't paying their bills - perhaps it would concentrate their minds a bit, why should they get away with it and expect the rest of us to subsidise them
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

People can choose if they want to use a mobile or wifi in their house and can turn them off and on.

So because some data is being mined and sold on then that means automatically that there is no issue with even more data being mined and sold on?

You like the idea of someone in a call center (rightly or wrongly) having the control to cut someones power supply at the click of a mouse. I don't.
  • Lets face it, your a meter reader and about as credible as a spotty teenager working in the vodafone shop saying its "all rubbish about using mobiles could be dangerous".

I'm going to go out on a limb and presume you have no qualifications in science, engineering or law else you wouldn't be a meter reader.

Some people raise concerns over things and suggest people look into it, others just arrogantly say its all fine and any concerns are rubbish.
What, do you think we are biased in favour of them when our jobs are going ? most meter readers hate them. I m just resigned to progress, like a Shire Horse with tractors. I like them because I think theres bigger fish to fry in the fact that stealing energy is getting bigger every year as most suppliers ( except British Gas ) have given up trying to stop energy thieving because it costs less to turn a blind eye to it. Meanwhile cannabis farming is now a career option ( approx 100,000 in the UK say the Daily Mail ) and Ebay carrys on selling gas meters and electric meter seals..Smart meters hold the promise of stopping it all dead

They give suppliers a great deal of control of your energy. In the future they could just change the law and disconnect you remotely without applying to a court or could throttle your enegy allowance when there are shortages to help them not bother upgrading the grid. Also if your sensitive to radiation, you can never turn the thing off unlike mobiles or wifi. They also cost a couple of pounds more a year in energy usage.

Also you loose anonymity as G4s use advanced mining technology to determine your lifestyle and if you forget to tick the box this data will be sold on.

But hey look into it yourself.

Nothing there they can't do regardless of smart meters and certainly nothing I'm remotely bothered about. I'd rather have the smart meter.

I had a new meter installed in April. It's a landis + gyr one. Also have the little energy monitor which is good. Although I don't think I have a proper smart meter as we still have to submit our monthly readings and the gas meter is still just the old one.

I don't think forcing smart meters on people is an appropriate way to combat electric theft and I wouldn't trust daily mail figures.

I choose not to have wifi, cordless phone, microwave, mobile, loyalty cards etc.

I think I could easily hack my meter, by breaking the seals turning the 'S' screw and re sealing it with a tag from ebay. But like 99.99% of people I'm not going to.

You clearly have no understanding what so ever of the device.

Smarts are the only way Polly, the utilities, ( apart from BG who find over 80% of the total ) have given up even looking. I found a gas meter substituted meter yesterday in a posh area of Doncaster and was struggling to get hold of anyone at EDF to be even interested. They run an Electric bypass set up from a contracted Revenue Protection set up, but are not interested in gas theft. Yet another house blown up this year in a house in Sheffield bypassing the gas meter. Its shocking to find that even when I discover these bypassers, only BG are interested. Scot Power are abyssmal as are all the micro suppliers. NPower ( I was told ) are the worst of the lot. I hope you have decent neighbours. You seem paranoid about wi fi, I would fear more your next door neighbours house catching fire or blowing up, there is more of a chance of that happening than you getting your brain fried with wifi
I remember reading about an Eastern European country where electric meter bypassing was a way of life and approaching an estimated 20% of the population. Thats what will happen here eventually. The trouble is, the stolen energy comes back on all the rest of us with higher costs
