They were trying (hoping) to fob you off by resetting the warning light in the hope that the fault would sort itself out. (E.g. a bit of gubbins in the system that clears itself). They'll now have to actually DO SOME WORK in investigating and fixing the fault. :)

Resetting an OBDii system does nothing, other than make the car ignore the stored fault, as soon as it shows again, it will be back.
As soon as it is fixed, it will go out.
No car has been made since 2001 that needed the "LIGHT RESETTING"
    Be happy...;)

I was going to post something similar. Anybody who says resetting the light (!) will fix the fault is a cretin who shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a car. It's like saying taking the battery out of your smoke alarm will extinguish the fire. It's true that sometimes the warning light and associated code can be a one-off result of damp or short (mine did it once when the CD failed to insert properly and another time when it rained onto the electric window switch) it still needs to be checked out and in most cases the fault needs to be identified and specifically corrected.

    Looks like a sensor fault.

The Sensor fault relates to incoming air temperature, The Intake Air temperature sensor measures the temperature of the air going into the engine. The sole purpose of the IAT is to find the temperature of the air going into the engine so the computer can calculate the air density and modulate the air going into the engine.

In short, the worst that is going to happen is you'll use more fuel and run less efficient than if the IAT was working correctly.

    Many thanks for your replies.

The dealership will be replacing two sensors. Both have to come from Belgium.

I do believe that I was being fobbed off taking the car back both times. I would recommend getting in touch with head office to anyone. As the responses I have had make me believe they are now fixing my brand new car and not fobbing me off for a third time by saying it could be a software issue bla bla.

    Shysters.

I had the engine management system warning light come on in a three-year-old car and the stealership charged hundreds of pounds to replace various overpriced components.

It was only when I probed further that I discovered a manufacturer's technical bulletin regarding this known fault. So I contacted the manufacturer, they agreed that I shouldn't have had to pay, and instructed the stealership to give me my money back.

Which they took 6 months to do. Crooks.
