Brand new car - engine warning light - where do I stand?

I hope someone maybe able to help me.
I have recently bought a new car (oct 1 st) and for the third time today an engine warning light has appeared.
I took the car back to dealership the first time it happened (Friday) and they reset the car and reassured me that would sort the problem. But same engine warning light came on yesterday (Saturday). I took the car to dealership again and they reset it again and also downloaded an update. But once again today the same engine warning light has come on!!!!
I will contact them again in the morning. But where do I stand? This is an 8 week old car showing an engine warning problem. I feel scared to drive the car now what if the car stops altogether?
Please please help.

I guess it depends on which warning light it is and what the electronic fault codes are telling the garage ... have they said what the problem is ?
We've had a fault light on for over 5 years, "engine management". Something's wrong with a sensor in the exhaust but the car passes the emissions test and the garage are OK passing it on MOT. So your fault might not be for much at all, the car could well be 99.99% functioning normally and entirely safe to drive, although I can understand what a pain it is, what with it being your new car.
Mind you, I'd be pretty insistent they got it fixed ! Our car's 12 years old and past the point of worrying about these kind of things.0 -
Only that the reset should fix it!
But obviously has not. My piece of mind has gone now. I do not feel happy driving it.[STRIKE]30:22[/STRIKE]

Not if the sensor is faulty.0

How did you pay for the car? You may have additional protection if you paid by credit card or finance under section 75 of the consumer credit act.
Have you tried also putting your complaint in writing, perhaps including a time is of the essence paragraph? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
We gave a deposit then the rest on finance.
Any advice gratefully received thank you.[STRIKE]30:22[/STRIKE]

Take it back, let them fix it?0

Did they actually tell you what the error was?
It would have come on for a reason, just resetting the light will rarely make the problem go away.0 -
Ask them what fault code there computer is bringing up when they plug it into your car. Dont let them fob you off ask what the fault code is, ask when you hand the keys to them to write any fault code found. Then when you get home google your car make and fault code or even ask on here about the fault code the result might help you put your mind at ease and help you overcome being scared to drive the car.0
