But if someone has actually died in the property, is it possible to argue for more of a discount. i.e. the increased risk of ghosts and bad spirits

Perhaps the fairest way to do the calculation you desire is to reduce the price by the exact percentage of your fearful reluctance to live in a property shared with a ghost.

What was the dead person doing under the property?

  • In my humble house buying experience, the relatives either, know exactly what it's worth, and are happy to wait until a serious buyer comes along, or they can't even be arsed to go and clear up the breakfast things and the house is left smelling of !!!!.

Either way, there's both emotion and greed, but also doing the right thing.

When my Grandad died, my Uncle (who is a retired property expert - he was a specialist in commercial deals in the millions ), was the executor, and said he felt a moral responsibility to his father, and all the family, to get the best deal possible. This wasn't greed, or emotion, more a wanting to do the right thing. He was also genuinely concerned that this meant, some of the family, could do with thier share sooner, would have to wait.

The the OP. Offer what you think it's worth. It may be that the death was along time coming. My nan has a stroke and was a virtual prisioner in her own body, with no ability to move, communicate, or even chew her own food, for 14 months. In the time she was in a nursing home, my parents wouldn't move an thing in her part of the house, but when she died, my dad, wanted all her stuff storing out immediately.

Some may view it that way, BUT, when my father died he had left a list of instructions in his briefcase, along with his will and every bit of paperwork we would need to sort out his estate. One of the instructions was to put the house on the market IMMEDIATELY following his death, if felt & looked wrong, but we did it as this was what he wanted.

I don't know the circumstances of the death, but will find out off the neighbours (they were the ones who told me about how quickly the family had moved to get the property on the market)

I know some might laugh at this, but I have noticed these days, that it's quite common to knock down houses to prevent this happening. Such as the fred west, mick philpott, tia sharp houses were all demolished.

They even knock down the houses next door to obtain a full quarantine.
this is a total windup! :rotfl:

Possibly. But if I was buying a house off a dead person, I'd really want to have the dead person removed first. Maybe as a clause in the contract or something.

And if the house had landed on top of the person and killed them, I'd make sure I had really good tornado insurance.

Sounds like you're asking how you can rip-off the grieving relatives of a recently deceased family member.

Thought this was a money saving website ?

Anyway, it looks like the vendors want to cash in ASAP, I wanna a cheap house. What's the problem ?

A good business deal is one that leaves both parties happy. So a lot of good can come out of the deceased passing.
