Thanks guys. The Blue Badge Holder wasn't present. I just thought it might show that I'm morally right because I could've used it and if I had I wouldn't have got the ticket in the first place.

Re: The letter I wrote... I was unsure of how aggressive to be. I have the employee's name as reference but don't really want him to get the sack for agreeing that UKPC are a shower of S***

I wouldn't either, just file a complaint without mentioning that you have already gone to the store. Don't be rude just assertive with it

Why don't you read the Halfords examples of cases won by complaining, as linked in the sticky thread 'Successful Complaints about PPCs'. Tons of examples of stroppier appeals there, and in post #3 on that sticky thread I linked an example of my version of a complaint (and yep, it's a rant!).

    How's this guys?

    Mr Matt Davies CEO
    Halfords Group PLC

    Complaint of Harassment

I previously rang your store at Riverside Park, Northampton on 28/11/13 (9.28am) and spoke to one of your employees with a concern I had over "Parking" at Riverside Park. (I have your employees name as reference)

I was questioning a UKPC Penalty Charge Notice on a car windscreen at "Riverside Park (Retail Park) in Northampton. The reason stated for the notice is "Not parked correctly within the markings of the bay or space"

The car was parked in an area that had no other cars in the near vicinity because access was needed to the back to doors, to load a large item onto the back seats as the boot was full.

Parking was free of charge for the first 2 hours.

The Customer went to Halfords and returned to the car in approx 10 mins to find the Penalty Charge Notice.

I am both horrified and disgusted that Halfords can allow such a notorious firm to harass customers on their behalf.

I rang the store to complain to the manager who was unavailable and was advised by 1 of your employees to “ignore” the alleged fine and if I get any more problems I could ring the manager at a later date. (Employee as mentioned above)

Having received a “Notice To Keeper” letter from UKPC I rang Halfords again on Fri 27th Dec and I was told by the assistant manager that “It’s nothing to do us and we have no control over UKPC”. The complete opposite to what I had been told previously.

I now feel somewhat let down by Halfords who had given me some hope against the bullying and intimidating way that UKPC go about their business.

As a Halfords customer we are now expected to have to explain our actions to a third party private company who we had no dealings with, no contract with, and who are demanding a lot of money from us.

We do not feel that the Landowner has suffered any form of loss for the 10 minutes that the Car was parked on the land at Riverside Park as there were plenty of empty spaces available.

I have researched the matter and intend to escalate my challenge against UKPC to the independent stage (Parking on Private Land Appeals).

However, I would welcome your own view on this harassment and hope you see fit to ensure that UKPC cancel the 'ticket' forthwith.

My research about this matter has revealed that you have cancelled some of these tickets for genuine customers recently, which has helped to restore my faith a little, albeit tempered with frustration. However, I am still shocked that Halfords are allowing such an aggressive agent to have free reign to intimidate customers for their own profit, at both yours and your customer’s expense.

    Yours Faithfully

Yep, stick that on their Facebook page. And if they say they can't help, then remind them by links, of the cases in the public domain when they did and also the fact that the CEO of Homebase stepped in only this month for a customer at the same Retail Park, harassed by UKPC. And also suggest that they forward your complaint to the Centre Manager of Riverside if Halfords themselves say they cannot cancel this (to be fair to them, I suspect Halfords didn't take on the PPC).

  • Thanks... Appreciated. I thought the added pressure would be that the Halfords employee told me to ignore it and was happy to give me his name as a reference

I agree, looks bad on them. And if you were not on a forum and happened to have had a ticket from a litigious PPC (like ParkingEye, not like UKPC!) you could have ended up in difficulties as a customer, just by following a Halford's employee's advice and ignoring a small claim or something!
