I seem to get a mix of local and (probably imported) fruits in mine. There aren't normally apples and pears available at this time of the year are there?
Anyway Kippsy, we have other threads on organic schems and suppliers that you might like to look at. They are listed under "Organic Foods" in our "Collections" sticky at the top of the board, or you could follow the clue in my signature belowHi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Hi, I'm thinking of getting one of these. It is just me & my son at home, what size would be good for us? Also where do you get them from?
From Dawn0 -
Hiya
A good place to look is www.bigbarn.co.uk who will show a picture and a list of organic box schemes, farm shops, and organic outlets near you. All you have to do is to type in your post code.
If that doesn't work, come back here and we'll see if any of us know of good places near you if you tell us your closest big town
Size would depend on just how much fruit and veg you normally eat... how often they deliver weekly/monthly and so on. Once you find them you can ask what they would recommend as a starter box and work onwards from there.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Hi, I looked there on big barn and I couldn't find a link to a web site. I have found somewhere called 'Riverford', anyone know what they are like?
I live in warwickshire near Coventry if anyone knows of anywhere close by.
Thaks, Dawn0 -
The only place I can find near you is river nene ---> Click Here
Riverford I don't know personally but have seen reasonable reports of, otherwise you'll have to pick the most likely sites from bigbarn and phone them.

The fruit and veg box is getting more interesting! Todays box has:
1 Aubergine
1 Red Pepper
1 Kg New Potatoes
4 Peaches
1 Melon
600g Apples
1 Iceberg lettuce
500g Tomatoes
So need to think of something to do with the aubergine as it is ready to eat now!Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

I recently found a great site which helps you decide what to do with your organic in season fruit and veg - it's called Eat the Seasons - http://www.eattheseasons.co.uk
They list 'what's good to eat when' and you can sign up for a regular email of what's in season, but the best bit is when you go to the site and click on the names of the veg you get recipes, cooking instructions, storage info and other useful information.
Eg: for Aubergines >

As for the weekly organic box, after trying various suppliers I settled on East Coast Organics http://www.eastcoastorganics.co.uk/ can highly recommend them to anybody in the Edinburgh area, they do bread, milk, eggs etc too.
A veg bag is £5 and a fruit bag is £5 or a bigger veg box for £10 or + fruit is £15 (delivery is free).

The Organic Farmers Market has an offer on until mid August - free delivery on orders over £30 and a free gift (choose from chocolate brownie; a taster selection of fresh organic fruit; a small summer salad pack; a mini-breakfast (juice, milk and cereal); or a mixed growing seed selection.)
They collate produce from a variety of West Country farms / suppliers, so they have meat, poultry, bread, dairy, eggs, drinks (yummy apple juice), veg, fruit (the nectarines are gorgeous!) as well as your usual boxes (Organic Vegetable Boxes are £9.00 each).
They are based in the West Country but will deliver anywhere in the UK.
