What I like about these boxes is that most of it (not all as some comes from abroad) is seasonal so it brings back the old fashioned approach of enjoying fruits in their true season e.g. cherries and apricots in June. There is always something to look forward to like strawberries (I hope) next month. I can highly recommend Fair organics.

This week's box, for me, is a real winner:-

No potatoes so they made up for it by...

    3 small onions

    6 small carrots

    250g asparagus

    500g broad beans (in pods)

1 LARGE bag assorted lettuce leaves

    5 sticks rhubarb

    2 pears

    500g strawberries

    £5.00 delivered.

So I'm off to peruse the Recipe Indexes :)

Yep. I'd forgotten how nice raw asparagus tastes :)

Been nibbling while I put together a chicken and aspargus soup for the slow cooker, and I've got a huge rhubarb and strawberry crumble ready for the oven...

..just need to makes some waste pastry for jam tarts now :)

Oh and a bag of mixed shoots, so that should be interesting ... maybe make a salad or something with it!

    Question:-

Should I leave all the chopped asparagus and the broad beens etc as lumps in this soup, or blitz them all, or blitz half...?

I really like my fruits and I go to a local farmers market for some veg, especially tomatoes! They do apples and strawberries and rhubarb but I love oranges and bananas, are the box schemes good for fruits?

I know this would mean them being imported, at the moment I buy fair trade oranges in Tescos, they are very tasty and juicy.

Have searched for box schemes in my area and have found that able and cole deliver, their selsction seems good and they have a preference scheme (good job because I don't like courgettes!). Are Able and Cole any good?

Found a good site for searching for farmers markets and box schemes, whyorganic.org you have to register though.
oooh look only about 220 posts and I got round to doing my Avatar already!!
