crop damage is likely to be £10 per square meter at most. That's probably generous.
The fence itself would cost you and me no more than £100 to repair. But b2b contractors are a rip off. They could easily charge several hundred pounds. Plus time - farmers are always busy and working hard. A broken fence is time off from regular duties and the farmer needs to be compensated for that. Plus a nice cut for the insurance too.
Why are you so fussed, your insurance will pay for all this. (or shoudl do).0 -

I'm guessing his insurance company may not have been informed, or something similar.
As if the insurance company was involved normally after the excess he probably wouldn't have heard anything much else, certainly not from the farmers insurance company unless something had gone badly wrong with the claim.0 -
