Harveys Furniture - Furious over lack of customer service

Options
Hi all

I need some guidance on what to do please. In a nutshell, I ordered an entertainment unit from Harveys, they delivered a sideboard. This was at the beginning of October that we ordered. They wanted to deliver while we were on holiday for 2 weeks so we rescheduled delivery for when we were back (end of October). The sideboard has not been collected and the unit not delivered, despite repeated requests from us. Here are the details:
  • What did you buy? A Harveys Furniture Entertainment Unit
  • When did you buy it? Beginning of October
  • Where from? (internet or in store - it DOES make a difference) Internet
  • How did you pay? (cash/cheque/debit card/credit card etc) Credit Card
  • What went wrong? Harveys delivered a sideboard instead. We were told that they would phone us an hour before delivery (which they didn't) and our neighbour had to let them in. If we had been there we would not have accepted the sideboard
  • What are the vendors telling you? That they need to arrange with their delivery company Caxton to collect the sideboard and deliver the unit. We were told it would be 2 weeks 2 weeks ago. We phoned today and were told another 2-3 weeks.
  • What solution or remedy are you looking for? (Companies may Repair / Refund / Replace) At this point I would like my unit delivered and the sideboard collected ASAP and at the same time.

I am trying to get hold of someone at head office to discuss this with but we have had ZERO success with their customer service department by phone. I am getting to the point of putting the sideboard out on the pavement and requesting a refund.

Thanks.
Carmen.

  • I know you're not serious but just to clarify don't put it outside!

What is their excuse for not swapping it yet?

Out of interest, what's the reason for not putting it outside? You're right, I don't think I will. I'm just frustrated that it's taking up space in my lounge where an entertainment unit should be!

Basically Harveys use a supplier, Caxton for their deliveries. They haven't given us a reason for the delay, just that the supplier has told them 2-3 weeks for delivery. We've been told this 3 times now. We keep getting told that the supplier will be in touch with us directly but we've not heard from them, so we keep having to chase Harveys.

Thanks Chickabiddybex (love the name, by the way!)

Quite simply... you have a duty of care to look after their goods while in your possession.

If it was damaged, by rain for example, or was stolen because you failed to take good care, you would be responsible.

That's interesting, I didn't know that - thank you. What rights do I have in this situation? We would not have accepted the sideboard if we had been home to let them in when they delivered. Unfortunately they didn't give us any warning and when they turned up to deliver neither my husband nor myself could be home, so a neighbour let them in. I just want them to collect the sideboard - it's been 4 weeks now. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Probably won't help, but there's a BIG thread about Harveys on the Northern Ireland board.

Would not put it outside either.;)
