  • Hi,

Are there any customers of Solar Home Energy Limited on here? They and their parent company Warm Roof went into administration in March.
    Absolute robbers as blondeangel said.
System never worked. Had independent report carried out on the installation to back up my claims. These sharks dragged this along for a good 6 months, and then went into administration.
Unfortunately was harassed to pay on cheque, so no recourse under Credit Card compensation or Finance plan.
I have been told that these same guys are now just working under a different name, Ideal Solar Energy Ltd. Assets have been transferred, but they have said they will not honour any problems stemming from old SHE Ltd customers.
Is anyone else in a similar position? Is there any advice out there?

Surely this is not right, and yes I wish now I insisted on paying on credit, but their high pressured selling tactics were just a bit too much am afraid.

    Any help appreciated.

if you paid by cash or cheque, im afriad theres very little you can do in english law.
you can make sure you spread the word on the net, about this scamming cowboy company.
you could visit them (with your rugby team mates) and persuade them to refund you?

  • so when we had this foam installed 5 years ago the work was done well and with no mess; and since then we have had no problems with the roof, and the extra insulation works well. Perhaps we're in a minority.
But does anyone know about the "insurance backed" 10 year guarantee that covered the work done ? Will the insurance company honour this if i have any problems in the next 5 years.

Your contract was with the original limited company, and they are liable to you only for as long as they are trading.
However, if they cease trading, or the premises have been taken over by another business, the contract, and also the guarantee, becomes worthless and unenforceable unless the work was paid for with a credit card or finance organised by the trader.
In these circumstances you may have a claim against the credit company. Some companies offer insurance-backed guarantees for this sort of work.
This means that the guarantee is underwritten by an insurance company, and exists in its own right, separate from the company that carried out the work.

If the company disappears or goes bust, you should still be able to make a claim under the guarantee from the insurance company for the lifetime of the guarantee. Check your guarantee carefully.

  • I have tried to get GE Money to sort out my roof and give me compensation for the damage Warmroof (now in administration) did spraying the foam on my loft to insulate. The more or less admitted liability on the phone and sent roofer round to survey the damage. The roofers agreed that the roof was a mess and needed complete retile and refelt urgent. GE Money sent another company out who I believe survey normally for conservertories. the suited man only looked briefly inside the loft and took photos inside and out but did not go on the roof??? Guest what GE Money then sent a letter saying they are not sorting out the roof AS this last company had said it had be repaired in places by another roofer since Warmroof. I knew something was fishy about this last man as if he was asking certain questions to try and discredit me and blame others.
My ceiling is leaking in badly everytime it rains. I had to get a roofer out to tempory repair as the insurance had sent a surveyor out and wouldn't pay for the internal damage (carpets walls ceiling etc) until I had water proofed the roof. This leak is n ow getting worse .... I am in serious debt... with GE Money putting interest on top of interest\ after saying they would freeze the loan. Now want paying again.... I owe money to Barclays Partner finance for a stupid timeshare investment and all I every planned to do was sell the house until the crunch hit us all. I feel I must have gullible or something written all over my face and I trying to get on a IVA to sort out the other stuff ...............................any one out there can help? I have a good job now but every penny goes on bills and mortagage and not much on debts. They won't stop charging me interest on interest.....

You need proper legal advice, go back to your home insurance legal line, the CAB or a local solicitor may do a free interview.

GE can't refuse to pay out because you've had repairs done. You may need a statement from the repairer about what they did.

    hi

they are supposed to be backed by an insurance company so if the company goes bust you are still insured, does anyone know who the company was?
    thanks
  • I stumbled across this thread in attempting to find out what happened to Warmroof Systems Ltd.

Of course, I need to get in contact with them because I need to explore their 25 year guarantee. As they're in administration, and those telephone numbers I have found which aren't discontinued are permanently engaged, I'm hoping that somebody has the answer to the previous post - who was the guarantee backed by?

I've got my guarantee and it's fabulously vague. Isn't hindsight a wonderful thing?

As I'm pursuing a claim, I've done some leg-work - Trading Standards/Consumer Direct advised me to contact the administrators directly, who are:
    BDO Stoy Hayward
    Arcadia House
    Maritime Walk
    Ocean Village
    Southampton
    SO14 3TL
    0238 088 1700
The advice was to effect the repairs, then submit a claim in writing to the administrators as an unsecured creditor. The company has already ceased trading, but administrators don't yet know what funds will be available for the settlement of these claims.

The cynic in me feels that the fee charged for the advice I received has effectively put paid to any chance I might have of compensation or replacement under guarantee!

Unfortunately, not one of the companies still in existence offering this (dis)service(?) comments on repairs, so I'm now in a quandary. Do we use a 'specialist' in this technology to make a repair, knowing what we now know but hopefully leaving us water-tight and no worse off? Alternatively, do we ask a reputable roofer and suffer the humiliation?

    These aren't rhetorical questions ...
