I agree with you but it's the only language these companies understand. The child was injured because of unnecessary and poor driving, this is exactly the kind of case you SHOULD sue.

    I agree.

Although I also agree with MM that complaining and demanding compensation for every little thing is an annoying aspect of modern day society, when people observe things that could be a serious danger to others, they should make the effort to get those responsible to take the situation seriously.

A company that gets a letter of complaint will frequently ignore it, but having to pay out compensation tends to focus their minds on the problem.

Of course, it's quite possible that the driver in question was told off and that complaints of this sort are tallied up and monitored for each driver, but unless they tell you what they are doing to monitor or rectify the situation they could just be sweeping the problem under the carpet.

Nope, but if you aren't standing at the doors when the bus arrives at the stop around here, the driver doesn't stop!
I used to press the bell when I had a pram + toddler in tow. 100% of the time there wasn't someone else getting off and standing by the door, the bus sailed past my stop.

Really? I find this all rather unlikely. And if it is the case, why aren't you writing to your bus company about this?

I wrote to them about this many times. I received a reply of pretty much
"our buses have timetables to adhere to and as such it is not practical or possible for the driver to stop and wait at every bus stop for passengers to stand up and exit the vehicle after it has stopped. Often, if a bell has been pressed and no passengers appear to be alighting it is due to an accidental press of the bell. If the driver stopped each time this happened it would greatly affect the punctuality of our services. If the driver does not see a passenger standing up or attempting to reach the front of the bus when approaching a stop, we stand behind them in their decision to continue driving. In future, you may wish to inform the driver, when boarding, of the stop at which you intent to leave the bus as then it is more likely the driver will not treat the pressing of the bell as accidental."

I often tried this telling the driver malarkey, but due to my stop not being a main fare point, then the drivers usually didn't clue on to which stop it was and the issue remained the same.

To help us avoid it, where is this place that bus drivers don't let people off the bus and ambulances take two hours to arrive?

    Try London.

There is a further problem when the bus stops and one person is by the door and hops straight of whilst another is trying to make their way from the back of the bus. The driver sees the person get off and no one else present and assumes it's OK to continue.

... and they said he would be 'dealt with'. Not sure what that meant. Just appalling!

When he arrives back at the depot, he's greeted by four robed men who lead him into a small room where he's stripped naked and then flogged with olive branches for as many hours until they judge he has atoned. That's after the sacrificial hamster slaughter.

    Birmingham/Solihull.

Ambulance was called re: severe abdominal pain. Took over 2.5 hours to arrive. Suspected appendicitis in my 3 year old, but as it wasn't a heart attack etc it was low priority. It was appendicitis and he had to be rushed to theatre when he got to hospital. It was 2.5 hours for a first responder who then put my son in his car rather than waiting for an ambulance.
Thankfully, when it was classed as an emergency (my 1 year old stopped breathing & went blue and limp) a first responder arrived in 4 minutes.

OMG! How do I claim compo? I'd much rather claim compo than have a poor hamster sacrificed!

Yes but passengers should also be aware that a moving vehicle can suddenly stop thus they should have hold of an appropriate hand rail (which are there for standing customers to hold onto)

Double decker buses have either CCTV or a mirror which let's the driver know what is going on upstairs.

    Always good to be wary.
But if the bud driver had done a emergency stop because a e.g. pedestrian had walked out in front of the bus.
Then I would like to think the OP would have not complained as that is a genuine reason for slamming on the breaks. They would just have to accept the black eye.

I find it very likely as it happens here as well. In fact, I have been standing by the doors before having rang the bell, and the driver has driven straight past the stop. When I told him I had in fact wanted to get off at the stop, he said "You should have rang the bell then!"

No point writing to the bus company, it doesn't change anything.
