Bag Packing at supermarkets

Well, just wanted to start this discussion...

Found out today that Asda, Tesco, Morrison's all take a percentage of all bag packers at their store.. Only one whose free is Sainsburys...

Quite shocking and quite disgusting don't you think?!

So next time you are shopping and see the Beavers, Scouts or whoever ..just think !

( Do they take a percentage of all poppy sellers, guide dogs collection tins too ?)

:money:.. did you know?!!

When I was a scout leader, we used to bag pack at the co-op. They never charged us, and if anything, quite often rounded our takings up with a donation.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?

This is more shocking and disgusting:

How reliable was your source? Sounds like it has a high chance of being balderdash so it's important to say where the information came from and how it can be checked, otherwise it is pretty libelous.

No I work at Morrisons and they don't do that.
People don't know what they want until you show them.

  • I have bagged packed at asda before now and not charged anything, I was the organiser so I know, may be it's up to the individual store managers

As a Guide leader I know for definate that Morrisons, Sainsbury, Asda and Marks and Spencers do not take anything of the bag packing money raised. Never bag packed at Tesco or Waitrose to be able to comment on them.

Also in response to gozaimasu's comment, not all charities waste money.
Within GirlGuiding paid staff (in headquarters), national funded centres, website etc are paid for from membership fees. Any money you put in the bucket of bag packers goes 100% to benefit the girls, no admin fee, wages etc is taken out.

Other than a few full time staff in central headquarters that are paid, GirlGuiding is run by volunteers that give up many hours of their time for nothing, often not even claiming their expenses so that more money can be spent on the girls.

Would it be worth them opening all the containers and counting to all to then take a percentage, would probably cost more in staff time than it would bring in.
