chewynut, Do they always serve the same sliced cakes on the same day? We always go on a wednesday and it's always carrot cake, which I don't like. Thanks.

As far as I know, the places to eat always serve the same cakes every day of the week. Our cake menu has been changed around a lot over the last three months but that was to celebrate the 150th anniversary. We are being encouraged to get customers to fill in comment cards and it would be nice to get one that suggested different cakes on different days rather than the usual complaints of 'not enough staff'.

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Name Dropper I've been Money Tipped!
I have only recently signed up my husband for the card & vouchers and have only noticed today that the vouchers sent to him are dated differently to mine.

My ones are for use during a certain month but his have specific dates covering part of 2 months. Luckily we went in to use the July ones today because his one expires tomorrow!

We decided to have a scone with our drink but this only came with butter. No jam or cream and there was no sign of any available either!

That is what you get at Nottingham john Lewis too. Hopefully visiting mum in Manchester next week, her JL gives the cream and jam for free.

My husband only has part months too. His new vouchers didn't come in time but after a quick email they arrived the month later. His first voucher only had a week left on it. Think I might use his voucher next week so he has more time to use mine.

The last time I was in John Lewis they had scones with cream/jam already made up as well as plain scones to add jam too if you wanted.

Well. I've been listening to the grape vine since my contract's finishing soon and I've got some interesting news.

The My John Lewis scheme will no longer be promoted. It will be available if you ask but cashiers will stop asking if you have a card. They've been phasing it out for a while at my branch. I gather it's because of reasons I've grumbled about earlier in this thread. I can write an entire post on these reasons but I'm not sure I should.

Basically the scheme wasn't thought through properly from JL's side, and customers have abused the hell out of the scheme and the catering staff. Nobody wins :(

Thanks to Chewynut for the inside track. I am always pleased to get tea and cake but now that they have stopped offering the delish victoria sponge i am not so thrilled. I would happily pay the 3.75 for it but it ix no longer on offer. Am assuming it is because it is costing JL too much .
Bring back the victoria sponge, pleeeeease, john lewis.

I'm not entirely sure but everything goes through the head office these days, whereas I think before the branches had the freedom to decide their own recipes and menus.

Your best bet is to ask for a comment card next time you're in, or e-mail them. All comments are read and hopefully if they get enough requests for vic sponge, they might be able to do something about it. Comment cards hold more weight than commenting to the cashier (or having a hissy fit like one customer did :rotfl:)

Thanks chewynut. Maybe i could start a campaign to ask JL to bring back the vic sponge, i am surely not the only person to believe it is the most delicious of all their cakes.

Thanks for letting us know :)

Can't say I am surprised that JL have made this decision. As seems to happen more and more, a few people abuse the system so it gets stopped for everyone :(

I have really appreciated my free tea and cake and I promise I haven't thrown a hissy fit :p:D

Good luck with whatever you do next chewynut :)
