jeez - smokers are more reviled than heroin addicts these days! there is absolutely no reason your HOUSE should smell of tobacco smoke if he smokes outside and keeps himself and his clothes clean!
I think its more a personal hygiene issue - I smoke and have lived with a non smoker all my married life and for most of that time have only smoked outside. I change clothes every day, shower frequently and DONT wear the same coat to go out for 'fag' as that way the smell does permeate the coat. I also wash my hands after my ciggy. my OH has never complained I smell of 'fags'. because I take care NOT to!
Or because s/he is too polite to do so!0 -
After quitting fags 6 months ago I can safely say that anyone who thinks they don't stink of fags after having one is seriously deluded LOL!! If someone gets on the train and has had a ciggie walking to the station I can smell it a mile off.DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

As an ex smoker of 10+ years I can only agree with the above.0 -
Me too, I can smell it if I am in a queue in the supermarket behind a smoker.Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.0

Absolutely, you can tell a smoker a mile off, even if they've just had a shower and got changed.0

Christmas is coming...maybe santa can bring him some nicotine replacement therapy?
And I agree with the others on smokers who say they don't smell....they do. The smoker might not be able to tell, and loved ones who spend a lot of time with them may be used to it and not notice/be offended, but non-smokers will definitely smell them coming.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -

I am sorry but you smell. Its an awful smell too but its something as a smoker you wont notice, similar to how pet owners get used to their pets smell. My brother is like you religious about smoking outside and hygiene and he really only smokes 4-5 a day and he smells. It simply doesn't bother your husband much for him to complain about.
If i was the OP i would be talking to sister and then laying down the law, if he breaks the rules kick him out you simply cannot allow him to leech off you and disrespect you in this way just because he is your brother. When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0
