You are NOT allowed to take containers over 100ml even if they are empty. If you click the big link on post 3 it says so. If you take an empty container over 100ml be prepared to lose it.
:cool:seems I truly am blind.
Nowhere on the link, nor on the downloaded pdf on that link does it say empty containers are banned.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

The key phrase there is "even if partially full" . It does not mention EMPTY containers. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

wrong! the key phrase is "containers over 100ml"trisontana wrote: »The key phrase there is "even if partially full" . It does not mention EMPTY containers.
In any event - one of the dictionary definitions of partially is "not totally" - so the key words also mean "containers over 100ml even if not totally full".Cash ISA rate 6.5% fixed for 2 years. Mortgage rate 0.75% = 5.75% profit on £75K = £4500 per year:j

I think what it is trying to say that you cannot take any container over 100ml if it contains even a small amount of liquid, but it doesn't say you cannot take an empty container. The key point is the liquid, not the container.andrewmoorcroft wrote: »wrong! the key phrase is "containers over 100ml"What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
To take my argument further, what about empty plastic bags in your hand baggage? They are usually larger than 100ml and are capable of holding liquids. Do you think they would be banned ?What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

What part of "containers over 100ml" don't you understand? It requires no further clarification. It prohibits all containers over 100ml between 0-100% full/empty.trisontana wrote: »I think what it is trying to say that you cannot take any container over 100ml if it contains even a small amount of liquid, but it doesn't say you cannot take an empty container. You know they are not! You have to put your individual 100ml containers in a bag that is bigger than 100ml!
You have to consider the spirit of the rule. It is there to stop the potential of a large explosive container that could be achieved with 1 large empty container and many terrorists taking several 100ml containers to fill up the large container.
I 'think' that it covers vessels that are desined to robustly contain liquid. You would need something a little more robust than a plastic bag to succeed in the delivering the terrorist threat they are attempting to stop.
Also if they allowed large containers that appeared empty, a terrorist may try and take a large quantity of an invisible explosive or poisionous gas!
If you really want to take empty containers, hold up the queue and annoy everyone, then i think having them taken off you is the worst that is likey to happen.Cash ISA rate 6.5% fixed for 2 years. Mortgage rate 0.75% = 5.75% profit on £75K = £4500 per year:j

My half litre empty water bottle was taken of me at Berlin Airport several weeks ago, and another empty bottle confiscated at Manchester airport last week. When I asked why, I was told it was new eu rules.
My mate who works at Alicante airport was told it is to stop several people passing through security with several bottles of liquids under 100ml meeting up after security and pouring tham all into a bigger bottle. That makes sense I suppose, until you remember they can buy plastic bottles in the departure lounge:rolleyes:
A strange rule about empty bottles, but apparently it is a rule.0 -
It's not "containers over 100ml" it's "containers over 100ml even if partially full" that's the difference. As I said before, It's the liquid and not the container which matters. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0
