I've just applied on line for a Capital one cashback card and was told my credit card number was invalid. On phoning them I was told that as an existing Capital one cardholder I was barred from applying for the cashback card. However if I moved to another credit card I could reapply in the future as a new customer. How daft is that?0

Why has no one mentioned the partnership [John Lewis Waitrose] Mastercard?
Users get vouchers to spend in Waitrose or John Lewis stores, not cash, amounting to 2% of money spent at JL or Waitrose, and 1% of money spent elsewhere. Vouchers are sent about twice a year
I have used it for well over 2 years and am well satisfied.0 -

I had a BA Amex card, because I use airmiles and it seemed to offer loads in comparison to my other airmiles card. Then I discovered that it cost you far more miles in order to book a simple trip, so it actually wasn't any better value. The most annoying thing about it is that hardly any of the local retailers use it, so you always have to carry other cards with you. Apparently Amex charges retailers more than the likes of Visa and Mastercard. Also, it usually has a higher fee than other cards for online purchases. They gave me a massive £9k credit limit, which really hurt my credit profile and it took several attempts to get them to cancel the card and update Experian.0

By the way, I am about to make £400 profit shortly. Me and hubby have a joint current a/c, a No. 2 joint current a/c and a sole current a/c for him, all with RBS.
We took his name off the no. 2 a/c and are transferring it, plus his sole a/c to Halifax to get £100 reward each.
I took a 0% Ulster Bank card and balance transferred a few thousand to Egg Money (stoozing). Used the money to set up two First Direct current a/cs for us, again for £100 reward each.
Meanwhile, he has opened an Alliance & Leic current a/c, with a revolving s/o of £500 per month, just waiting for their Recommend-a-Friend offer to increase back up to £50, then I'll open a current a/c and start recommending friends.
Expect to make around £800 per year from stoozing using 0% bal trans cards and 0% purchase cards for normal spending!0 -
I have just heard a rumour that Abbey may be launching a new cashback card in September .. I have been unable to get any details about it (yet!)

Hi,
Got approved online for CaptialOne cashback and now I've got the paperwork to sign and return. Couple of things surprised me:
- toward the top of the credit card agreement there is a "Total Charge for Credit" and that has a hard ammount of 123.36 pounds. No explanation what that is. I've never seen this on a credit card application before - I have no account with them, no ballance, no transfers - how can they write a hard number out of context? Is this a standard thing?
- in TEFT, LOSS OR MISUSE OF CARD it says: "If your card is lost, stolen or misused by someone, you may have to pay up to 50 pounds of any loss to us.". Now call me paranoid but I've had in the past fraud happen to me and never paid a penny. Reading some of my old credit card agreements this sum is 0 for them. Just to let you know...
I shall be on the phone to CapitalOne tomorrow but if anyone has ideas, suggestions or info it could be quite helpful.
Thanks,

Out of interest to anybody thinking of applying for a capital one credit card due to its 4% cashback offer for 3 months .. keep an eye on the time of year. Christmas is a coming and one may want to make sure one can take full advantage of that 4% cashback. If it is applied based on the amount purchased then the end of next month may be a better time to apply, if it is applied when paid then maybe the end of October would be a better time to apply .. however the proviso is that this offer may not be about forever (you pays your money and you takes your chance)

Anyone with an Abbey/MBNA card taken out before Jan 2006 can apply for a new "priority" card with 6 months 0% BT with no fee, as well as the 5% cashback. Plus they get £50 free if the BT is over £1000.
Obviously no link available, but I guess it will be on abbey.com on 3 Sep.0
