I am also a bit flabbergasted that you can see £21 extra gong out each month, assume your daughter is using a lot of Internet and just be fine with it for a year! Anytime my stepdaughter's bill has been significantly more than expected (and £21 is significant I think) she has been spoken to and made to pay some of the extra from her pocket money.0

Seriously though you are right. Theres millions of customers, some who just have a phone for emergencies. Like my Mother, she pays a contract but hardly uses it.
As an aside and being MSE.
Why is your mother paying out on a contract if she hardly ever uses it? Wouldn't she be better just having a cheap PAYG?0 -

I know, I know. She is scared it is cut off for lack of use as she has heard horror stories. At least paying for it she has peace of mind. It is cheap though.
I have tried telling her this. Its a bone of contention lol.0 -

(not a dig at you, just explaining the difference to the OP)
OP, you were very lucky that they gave you six months refund - they didn't have to as it was your mistake.
Orange have also phoned my OH for a best plan review before. This was a fair few years ago though.0 -
If you didn't call them to cancel its tough I'm afraid. I get harassed to Hong Kong and back to upgrade when my contract is near the end of the set period.
It would be a different story if you called to cancel, they said it was cancelled and then the contract kept going and due to their inabilities didn't cancel it for you. I suppose if in that situation you had multiple bills around the same amount each month going out from Vodafone and to your knowledge you had cancelled you might have wiggle room, but I can't imagine that wiggle room lasting longer than a few months.0
