ive been paying for a vodafone unused contract & never even knew for 11months

Hi ive just found out that an old contract wasn't cancelled and ive been paying £21 a month for the last 11 months, ive contacted Vodafone who were not very nice or helpful, ive never had an paper bills and so didn't realise this was going on, they have now agreed to refund 6 months but I feel cheated and let down by their attitude, im currently already paying 2 other Vodafone contracts so that was 3 in total :( anyone else had this problem?

You might not have paper bills but surely you check the account/payment method the money comes out of regularly?

Wow you didn't check your bank activity for 11 months?

Don't have any advice about Vodaphone but hope you get it sorted.
  • This always shocks me, when someone does not notice over twenty quid coming out of their account for almost a year.

Sorry OP, but I don't think you have a leg to stand on.
  • no sadly I never noticed! as I said I already had 2 other Vodafone contracts running so the amount came out as 2 lots and I thought the higher 1 was my daughters as shes always online with her phone. I was really shocked to find out about this as I was actually calling them to add more data etc to our phones due to increasing bills. the guy on the phone called me back to say..do you know you have 3 contracts running? the unused 1 actually ended in dec 2012 but as they hadn't had a 30 day notice they continued to take the £21 per month, furthermore they did say I could check online my other 2 used accounts but not this unused 1 as it was long ended?? this doesn't make sense im still paying but I cant check it?? so I would never have found out?? so annoyed with myself :((

Vodafone send an email every month saying your statement is available.

Did you not check this nor your bank account????

Do you have it in writing that you cancelled?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • I never checked online Vodafone account, as never actually set this up. I did check my bank account and seen payments to Vodafone every month but thought the increased price was extra usage on our phones from month to month as were never the same, no that's the point they havnt got a 30 days notice in writing from me. but surely if a phone hasn't been used for nearly a year and the contract has come to an end then they should contact you?? its been running for nearly 3 yrs with 11 months ago the plan came to an end (24month plan) but it just shows you if you don't notice they wont tell you either, also if I had set up an online account the guy said I wouldn't see this old account because the plan was finished 11 months ago?? so why are they still taking money??

The contract doesn't end in the respect that it automatically cancels, you simply pass the minimum term.

If you don't request the cancellation it simply continues on a month by month rolling basis.

I'm amazed how many people make the same mistake.

I think getting 6 months back is a good result to be fair.
  • yes your right! it was my mistake I know that now.. but in all fairness you would expect Vodafone to give a courtesy call to their customers to let them know etc? but they never did im going to cancel as soon as I can and find a better cheaper plan or just buy sim only as the customer service was a joke unless your wanting to buy more services that is :(
  • I have to admit that I have always found vodafone cs to be very good -but I guess its a case of them always being able to provide what I want them to provide ......which I guess is the same in your case - I mean would you be so anti-vodafone if they had refunded all your money (and yes I'm in the 6 months refund when they've done nothing wrong is pretty good going camp)

The only thoughts I've had that may be of use is did you intend to upgrade the non used phone when the 2 being used were created? If so did you tell vodafone?

  • hi there, no I was updating the 2 used contracts to more data to avoid bigger bills, they firstly said my own number was going over quite a bit so best to upgrade which I did on the spot, I then asked about my daughters and was told she was fine as she was & to dial 44 555 on our phone to check usage, so when I picked up my girl I asked her to dial the number from her phone.. to my shock she said she had lots of minutes but no data left! so I was very annoyed as I had asked the guy to check both numbers 20 mins or so earlier, so I had another call to Vodafone on my return home, this time it was all sorted. then a few minutes later I got a call back from a guy saving do you know you have this 3rd contract bla bla bla and then the phone line went dead!! so I have to call again to try get this sorted out! at first they wouldn't even tell me the number? just giving me the last 4 digits & this was getting really bad they again cut me off and I called again, and it sounded like a party going on at Vodafone just before 8pm the service I got was terrible and yes I was wanting to look for other deals anyway but this has put the nail in the coffin for me with Vodafone its a matter of manners and principle and I think both were out of order, I ended up speaking on a live chat and getting the contract stopped immediately as an emergency as the guy put it! as the other advisers were still insisting on a written 30 days notice and wouldn't let me speak to a supervisor or any clear English speaking advisors either.. so poor show Vodafone im leaving asap
