I never use anything BUT a credit card, for shopping.
Use their money free (extended period, interest free on purchases), settle in full at end of the interest free period, claim the Cashback as well - result all round!:T:j
Same here. We use our credit card for all purchases for the points. Every few months a pile of vouchers turn up and I spend them on stocking up the food cupboard with basics. In the meantime I get a temporary interest free period and my account is set up to pay the whole balance every month.
Can't imagine not using it.0 -

Us too.
As long as you pay the balance off IN FULL (as Martin keeps saying), it's the best way to pay for your groceries.
And we get cashback from our credit card.
Quite shocked at this comment:I'd be more embarassed to be seen buying groceries with a creditcard than I would be having it refused at Aldi mind you. I've always felt only the fec kless use creditcards for groceries.
Embarrassed? Really?
It's not f e c kless to use credit cards for anything as long as you are in control.0 -

Oh dear, all the hundreds of pounds over the years Duchy must have lost not knowing the benefits of credit cards. One of mine which is no longer available, you have to be quick sometimes, some may know the card and it offers 4% cashback on all petrol & supermarket purchases. It makes me hundreds each year. It's amazing people like Duchy come out with what they say when they are in fact throwing loads of money away!0 -

What is sadder, from their point of view, is that they are subsidising us.
You can guarantee that the 4% we get back on our Luma cards together with all the other charges the CC companies make to provide 'free' credit to their customers is passed on to the supermarkets and figured into their pricing.
Thus cash and debit card customers finance the 'free' credit and cashback. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
I hate these places like the Range who have a min spend on credit cards and yet places like the Pound shop you can pay with a min amount.0

I've no idea who 'Range' are but Pound Shop are quite a large chain.
Large chains have a lot more clout when dealing with the card companies and, whilst they cannot avoid the cost of providing credit and cashback, they will undoubtedly be able to negotiate very favourable deals for the actual processing charges which will obviate the need for minimum spend.
You may have heard that American Express charge more to merchants for the use of their cards but can bet your life that people like Tesco and M & S do not pay any more than they do for Visa and Mastercard. It is far more important to AmEx that they be accepted in the large chains than it is for the large chains to be able to accept AmEx.There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

The fee the retailer gets charged though is less than 2%. Luma will make their money back from interest from people who don't pay the balance in full back.
In most shops I've worked the cash vs card spend is about 50/50. It will be reflected in prices but I'd say it'll only add around the actual overall cost which baring in mind half of a days takings is paid by card & that'll also include debit cards where the transaction fees are less I'd say the overall cost added on is about 0.75%.0
