Why do people drive around with their fog lights even thought there is no fog around?

Most just forget to turn them off, some don't know when to use them, some think it looks cool.

But when they come right up your backside with all lights blazing it's very irritating.

Who ever drives with no lights on - you can not see?
  • Because they are not paying attention to conditions.

There is no clear cut answer, I think some just have an inferiority complex about their tat mobile, every now and then though the police do a purge on such drivers (fog lights on where not necessary) On another forum a guy was whining when his Mrs got a ticket for having the fog lights on where street lighting was available and visibilty was not reduced, the defence of they had just got off the motorway and forgot to switch them off didn't stand.

    I blame the radio stations.

They say something on the lines of "There's fog about, so don't forget to put your fog lamps on", but don't bother to remind people, to turn them off again, when the fog has gone.

As a result, people drive with them on, until the garage turns them off at the next MOT.

That's the beauty of fords. The fog light get switched off automatically, whenever you turn the other lights off, and have to be consciously switched back on, so they can't be accidentally left on for days/weeks/months.

Our local radio station BBC WM often give out 'warnings' to swithc them off , and say when the Police inform them of fog light purges.
The VAG cars don't allow the fog lights to be acidently switched on, and if they are left on at parking and the driver wants to ignore the warning beep, they can be greeted with a flat abttery upon their return.

It may vary with the initial driver training - my instructor was a demon for putting lights out where not needed.
I sort of wish he could teach my sons this approach...
