I wonder which Party you think will commit political suicide by introducing such a policy>

Do you think any party cares? It's all about economics.

So England isn't different and it is universal.

Would you care to authenticate your astounding revelation?

Ok since i said date and not age, which obviously you don't feel is pc, it is however, now per your birth date and age.

Therefore, if a man and a woman share the same birthdate, (and year,) they will also share the same date, (year and age,) when they will receive their (probably) non existent bus pass. For instance a male and / or a female born on 1st June 1959, would both receive their bus pass at 66 years of age on:

    Bus pass

The date you qualify for a bus pass depends on if you live in:
    • England - 1 June 2025
    • Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland - it’s usually when you turn 60

Try the link i provided to the Direct Gov website earlier, here:

Find out when you will be eligible using the Direct Gov w.ebsite State Age Calculator here

Although the Prime Minister has pledged to protect bus passes which lasts until the general election in 2015, they could still face the axe. They periodically talk about axing bus passes in my area. It will definitely happen, political suicide or no political suicide. I think you can expect means testing, at the very least.

I think many people simply aren't aware of the effects of the new pension reforms. Everyone i've spoken to still thinks you get your bus pass at 60 / 65, respectively, despite the rise in pension age. It particularly affects women more than men, so that's equality for you.

Thank your lucky stars if you already have a bus pass, and enjoy while it lasts?

You evidently don't know much about politics. Getting elected is the ONLY thing that matters in politics, as 24 years in politics showed me.

They'll just it more deviously - keep the bus pass but withdraw subsidies for bus routes so there'll be no buses to use them on.

And deflect the blame to the local authorities

Already happened in parts of the country and on its way in more.

Which is precisely why the Prime Ministers' pledge to protect the bus pass only lasts until the general election in 2015.

Surely this is economics, personal economics. Big fat salary and virtually unlimited expenses, all for sitting on your jacksie or talking.
The only thing that is constant is change.

The mention of the above reminded me, do we have to apply for this or is it automatic? I was sixty in August and have not received anything as yet.

You get it automatically if you are in receipt of certain benefits - one of which is the state pension

    Otherwise you have to apply.

I don't think you are quite old enough - the age at which it's payable is going up.

    Andlay,

There's a separate thread about the Winter Fuel Payment further down, but if you were only 60 in August 2013 you won't qualify for a few years yet, I'm afraid. (Either winter 2017/18 or winter 2018/19, depending on the exact date of your August birthday. Always assuming the scheme continues, of course.)

    Winter fuel payment qualifying dates
Winter - Must be born on or before this date to qualify
    2012-13 - 5 July 1951
    2013-14 - 5 January 1952
    2014-15 - 5 July 1952
    2015-16 - 5 January 1953
    2016-17 - 5 May 1953
    2017-18 - 5 August 1953
    2018-19 - 5 November 1953
    2019-20 - 5 April 1954
    2020-21 - 5 October 1954
    2021-22 - 25 September 1955
    2022-23 - 24 September 1956
    2023-24 - 22 September 1957
    2024-25 - 21 September 1958

The eligibilty age for your bus pass is now in line with your state pension age.
Except for those living in London where a free bus and tube pass can be had from age 60.

And it costs only £10 between age 60 and eligibility for the national scheme.
