Yes I must admit I was surprised its still at 60!! I reach state retirement next September and keeping everything crossed for the winter fuel allowance...that will be a great help0

So you get a free passport at 84 - have you seen the cost of travel insurance at that age ??:eek::eek:0

Luvchocolate, according to this you won't get the winter fuel payment until 2020, if you are 60 in September 2014, look at post 26

No. Those younger could get a free passport but only if they would be 84 now. Those who become 84 next year won't be eligible for a free passport. It is the date which is fixed, not the age of the person.0 -
I believe the whole idea of the free passport was as a thank you for everyone who was eligible to serve in the armed forces during and before World War 2."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0

It seems to me that once you reach 60 or 65 state pension age than tough!! - You are not eligible for anything other than free prescriptions. A couple husband and wife, husband on state pension only, the wife is no longer working now took early retirement in the summer and gets a very small pension of about £150 a month so between them the income monthly is just under £700 They do not claim any kind of benefits what so ever. But reading all the offers like Free boilers, Free solar panel etc etc they would not qualify in any case because they do NOT claim any benefits. This seems totally unfair and I don't understand why pensioners cannot qualify for these offers as surely these are the people who need it most and should be helped as they have no other means of earning an income.
Makes you wonder why so many people are out of work long term, as it appears not point in working as you don't get any benefits.0 -

Why should people of retirement age be eligible for anything if their income is adequate?
If people like those you mention choose not to work then they should expect to be short of money, whatever their age.0 -

Have they looked into Pension Credit? If their joint monthly income is under £700, they should be able to get PC.0
