but they seem insistent that the payment should go through

Well from what I've seen on here for the past 10 years, I think they are right and Aqua are wrong.
However to simply keep trying over and over is just daft.
Still you somtimes have to recognise that you're just talking to a call center operator and not someone that knows anything about the business. Unfortunate but that's the way it is.

If it's their fault they can't take payment then I would insist that you don't lose any service for the service you are buying.

Still heard nothing got my paper statement today.

Looks like my account is still live and I have the new 'style' version.

Will phone them tomorrow for an update. My cashback looks intact.

Just had a company complaining that the CPA on my card "No longer appears to function" which has made them really confused as apparently it's never happened before. I told them the card expired on the 22nd January and they tell me "That shouldn't make any difference.

That's interesting. I too would think that the card should work and I've never heard of a company being unable to process a CPA. Funny old Aqua if they have stopped it! :rotfl:

I wonder if there's a difference between a card being withdrawn from all customers and the account being closed by the cardholder? Maybe therein lies the issue, assuming it isn't that the company haven't processed the CPA properly?

Ditto! Carefully spent exactly £3333.34 and left £100 balance on the card so I didn't have to faff about with a cheque!

Unfortunately, my next statement date is 5th Feb, which I suspect will happen before the cashback is credited. I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that the cashback payment cannot be used to settle an outstanding balance, so they're probably going to take the £100 direct debit as well, so I'll probably still end up with a cheque :(

Edit: Clause 11.3: "Cashback paid will not count towards your monthly minimum payment(s)."

Thanks for that. My cashback should come BEFORE my statement date so there should be £0 balance and £0 min payment.

I guess it might be different if you get cashback after your statement.
You might be ok as 5th is two weeks after 22nd.
I agree one should be cautious and I personally wouldn't risk not making the min payment as that risks a black mark on the credit file.

I've just received my last statement from Aqua and noticed that my credit limit is now £0, maybe that is why they refused the CPA?

In card I've cancelled in the past, the credit limit was still the same after the closure. I can still see my closed Nationwide credit card, and the limit on that still shows the same as it was as well.

Just checked my online Aqua account.

    It still shows:

    Credit limit (unchanged)
    Current Balance
Available to spend (= Credit Limit - Current Balance)

I've just checked and its the same here. Online says Credit limit £500.00. Paper statement shows Credit limit: £0.

    Strange.

Indeed. I will let them take the Direct Debit if they want to. I'd far rather suffer the minor inconvenience of dealing with a cheque than risk a missed-payment strike.

Fingers crossed the cashback will get paid before the statement date, but my hopes are not high.
