Fab Frugal Wedding

I do everything frugally, because Im skint, on the off chance that I meet someone who is mental enough to marry me, I'd be doing it on the cheap. Not tight, just broke.
Cutting your coat according to your cloth and all that. Im sure some people who had lavish weddings are happy, people who had frugal weddings and every single thing in between.
Its your day, you do as you please.0 -
Not disagreeing with you Pauline, but MSE also means having big expensive stuff, but ensuring you get the best deal for you. So it's fine to have a £20,000 wedding if you can afford it, but the site helps you still great the most cut price deals so you 'only' pay 20k not 30k:)
The thing is, its a money saving site, dont think theres anything wrong with someone posting that they managed to get married frugally.
Daisiegg, although we chose a simple low key wedding through low income but also taste, I have been to several expensive ones of dear friends where their love and commitment was just the same as ours and they were happy days.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -

Thats highly unlikely given that I live in a poor town about 15 miles from Glasgow, but hey, you never know, some rich bloke might end up hanging around the local spoons and then I'll have a massive dilemma.
Nah, I think Id still do it on the frugal side of things. Not much call for a massive wedding with 3 of us in my family, including me.
Only so much champers you could neck in the one afternoon0 -
I actually used to date someone whose family are worth millions, but lets just say they were also frugal, very frugal, the dad used to count the coke cans in the fridge to make sure the kids werent going over their alloted quota.
Not a criticism, just an observation, they have several businesses and homes, worth a lot of money, but didnt like splashing it
Opposite was true in my house, my mum didnt count what someone had when they were a guest (I wasnt a guest of theirs btw, I was banned from the house even though the dad had never met me, didnt like people who werent from the farming community).0 -
OP, good on you. It sounds as if you had a fabulous day, with no worries about a huge debt hanging over you to start your marriage.

MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Thanks to everyone who has offered their congratulations and good wishes.
Pollypenny - If only we hadnt got a huge debt hanging over us (but thats another story).
We have had a particularly difficult financial year which has involved solicitors bills for something very serious. Our wedding was planned for over a year ago but we had to cancel and 'downsize'.
However....So glad we did. It's my second marriage. First one lasted 20 years or so and basically just petered out so I am fortunate to find what I wanted first time round. Believe me! It is very different this time.
Everyone said how much they enjoyed it. Even having to clip a few clothes pegs to the joins of the gazeebo's to stop some rain trickling in! though for most of the day it was fine and lovely.
Fluffnutter - Of course its more important getting married than saving. But the fact is we could not afford a more expensive wedding. So the choice was to wait for a couple of years or go ahead and get on with it. Must admit I was a tad reserved with the idea of a registry office but the staff at our local one were absolutely brilliant. Infact, biased I know, I have to say I thought the registrar out did many vicars sermons I have heard.
Even the 'olds' enjoyed it. Many said it was like a frugal wedding of the 50's and 60's and their expected departure before the evening 'party' never materialised.
Gunsandbanjos - I too thought we wouldn't be able to borrow everything but you would be surprised what is out there. Friends and family really can and do rally round. Even the cake. You could just buy or ask for a present a cheap supermarket one and place some lovely flowers on it if that takes your fancy. I think our only 'luxury' was the brides hair and make up which came in at under £100. She looked gorgeous and she said it made her feel every bit a bride.
Once again, thanks to those who have taken time to offer their good wishes.0 -
You can be frugal with a £100,000 wedding just as much as you can be with a £100. MSE is not about how much you spend but it is about how you spend that money.

I agree with MrsDrinks. It's about being creative by doing research to find better deals or managing to do ourselves. My husband and I spent about £5000, but I believe people would have assumed we spent about £10K for what we got.
The savings I am most proud of are my dress (looked absolutely stunning after a few alterations), bought too on ebay from a Chinese seller, made to measure; my cake (I saw one from a shop which looked beautiful. I bought the bases on sale and decorated myself and it really looked professionally done, yet cost 2/3 off) and the bouquets (went to Tesco, bought 2 finest bouquets, and redone them all adding some flowers from the garden, assembled it all watching a video on youtube), again looked like it had been done by florist which would have cost about 3 or 4 times more).0
