"Consumers face 17 more years of above-inflation increases in energy and water bills as they help pay for the renewal of the UK's infrastructure, Whitehall's spending watchdog has warned.

The National Audit Office added that "gaps" in the official analysis meant government lacked "an overall picture of affordability".

It expressed particular concern about low-income households.

But the government said it was "committed" to keeping bills down.

Fuel costs have become a highly charged political issue in recent months.

Five of the UK's six main energy companies have announced price rises, at an average of 8.1%.

On Tuesday, EDF Energy became the latest provider to increase bills, by an average of 3.9%."

If nothing else it will encourage people to insulate their homes, fit energy efficient white goods and consumer products and fit water saving showers and toilets. It's no bad thing that energy bills are becoming more realistic and reflect the cost to the environment of generating all that energy, much of which goes to waste.

We're about to fit double glazing to our house at a cost of nearly £30k. With energy prices constantly rising, it won't be long before the windows pay for themselves (plus the other measures we have already installed).

High energy costs are not a good you can install £30k windows if your energy bill is £200 or £2000 no one is stopping you

The only realistic way for energy costs to be lower and then only marginally is if there is a net energy importing nations nuclear build out. 250 nuclear plants with quad EPRs or similar would produce 14,000 TWh enough to stop the demand side for coal and gas increasing for the next 20 years.

Households 'only' use about a quarter of the eletricity generated the rest is business and industry.

And about 1/3rd of the natural gas

Government if it wanted to could possibly push or even regulate the utilities to put up prices no more than cpi inflation for residential customers. The utilities would not go bust nor would investment suffer. It would however mean business and industry utility prices would increase somewhat more

You are so far behind the curve but by all means keep spouting up, you never know we might have missed something.

Do you ever read your posts back to yourself to make sure they make sense?

Clearly not with this one as it's complete gibberish.

Did you go to the Grizzly school of grammar, spelling, punctuation and sentence construction? Another nonsensical post, though it does assist us on keeping track of the AEs.

I think you'll find they're making a lot more sense than you, Mr Muddle.

  • Thought this might be a good place to start, would like your views and ideas on how to take on the energy companies to get a better deal on our energy tariffs. My idea is that if we can all join together as one voice, contact the energy companies to come up with the best deal that they can for a ON-MASS switch to that one company that offered the best deal. The more people that would consider doing this, the stronger voice and more power we would have (People Power).
So if you would like to comment would love to hear from you.

    Yeah sure.
I've seen similar ideas to only get petrol from Esso for a month and it would force others to lower their price.
    It doesn't work.
The only thing we can do is make our homes energy efficient as MFW_ASAP points out. Sad he's getting so much stick and abuse for it.
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

I wondered where you got your nonsense from.

Perhaps you could insert £30K and see what it churns out?
