No Network coverage in Oz from three

Options
i have a smart phone and use the three network. I changed to three because of their new ''feel at home'' policy , which abolishes roaming charges for a few countries. well that has turned out to be a bad move as, i am currently in Sydney, and have no service at all!!
After many calls to three, and going over and over the same ground with them, i finally got a call from them saying, that as Three in Oz had merged with Vodafone oz, Vodafone has blocked all Three customers from outside of Oz.
SO, at a time that i particularly need my phone, I only have wifi coverage, and no 3g at all.
Very very annoying. And misleading too.

This doesn't sound plausible. Vodafone Australia and Three Australia merged their networks in 2009.

Get an Australian SIM card and put a voicemail greeting on your Three UK number giving callers your Australian mobile number. Claim back any additional costs you incur from Three UK as a result of their breach of Section 13 of the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 and Regulation 5 of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.

It doesnt say you have to use 3 or the people who took them over whilst roaming in the qualifying countries.

"What do I need to use Feel At Home?

You don’t need to do a thing. It all happens automatically as soon as you arrive in an eligible country. Just wait for your phone to pick up any local mobile network and you’re good to go."

How long ago did you change ? as far as I know you have to have had it a few months before you can use it abroad.

Have you checked to make sure you have international enabled in your settings and on your account ?

Which phone allows "international" (or roaming) to be enabled or disabled in its settings?

    60 days at least:
If you're new to Three and have a new Pay Monthly SIM plan with us, you won't be able to use your SIM abroad for the first 60 days of your contract. If you want to use your phone abroad, you'll need to call us after 60 days to activate international roaming.

The OP is complaining of only wifi and no 3g ....in order to get data on the phone I would assume that international roaming would have to be turned on even though it's a feel at home account

No, he has said that he has "no service at all". Although there is often an account setting for international roaming, I have never seen a phone that allows roaming to be turned on or off.

You can turn data roaming on/off on my phones so would assume that the OP will also have to make sure that it's turned on if they wish to use data other than wifi even though they have "feel at home"

I'm fully aware this does not need to be done for calls but surely it's reasonable to check the OP has it enabled for when it's connected

I had a similar problem with Orange a few years ago - every time I went abroad I would have no coverage despite roaming being enabled on my account and Orange telling me I should be able to make and receive calls. I spent a long time on the phone to customer services from various countries as well as from home trying to resolve it.

Eventually I had the good fortune to get through to a CS assistant who had previously managed to fix the same problem by turning roaming off and on again on the orange system. He gave it a try and it solved the problem straight away. Never had an issue since. But I had spoken to at least 10 CS assistants beforehand who hadn't been able to find a solution.

It's a very long shot that this is the same thing, but maybe worth a try????

If the OP has no service at all, then enabling the data component of roaming on the phone is irrelevant. If the phone is not connected to a network, it makes no difference whether a data connection is permitted or not.
