If the OP has no service at all, then enabling the data component of roaming on the phone is irrelevant. If the phone is not connected to a network, it makes no difference whether a data connection is permitted or not.
It will make a difference though when he is connected because if it's not turned on he probably won't be able to use data even though he is connected for calls and has feel at home.

Saves him coming back on complaining he has calls but no data :rotfl:

  • I used it in oz for the first week i was here, then it died. i cannot connect to ANY network here. There is a great big red X on the icon for networks.

I had a similar problem with Orange a few years ago - every time I went abroad I would have no coverage despite roaming being enabled on my account and Orange telling me I should be able to make and receive calls. I spent a long time on the phone to customer services from various countries as well as from home trying to resolve it.

Eventually I had the good fortune to get through to a CS assistant who had previously managed to fix the same problem by turning roaming off and on again on the orange system. He gave it a try and it solved the problem straight away. Never had an issue since. But I had spoken to at least 10 CS assistants beforehand who hadn't been able to find a solution.

It's a very long shot that this is the same thing, but maybe worth a try????
Thank you for that info, i will get back on to them and ask them to try that for me. Although i will be back in the UK next week!!

This doesn't sound plausible. Vodafone Australia and Three Australia merged their networks in 2009.

Get an Australian SIM card and put a voicemail greeting on your Three UK number giving callers your Australian mobile number. Claim back any additional costs you incur from Three UK as a result of their breach of Section 13 of the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 and Regulation 5 of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.
Nice idea, BUT, as i cannot connect to any network...............how will I put a message on to my number?

Sounds like a problem with the Oz network rather than 3 UK.

Have you tired manually forcing the phone to other networks over there?

You don't need to be using your Three UK SIM card to connect to your Three voicemail. See Three's instructions; you can dial +44 7782 333 123 from any phone.
  • Yes, i have tried all of that, as well as removing the battery, sim card, trying the sim in another phone etc. Nowt works.
