First - I'm sorry Toniq, for continuing the discussion here, but if it goes anywhere else, i dont think many people will see it (and its a shameless bump to keep it at the top, so at least a few more people might see it now its been removed so quickly from the main board)

fnc63 - so the reason we have a magazine sticky is so its easier for the OPs! You say there are 16 magazines - lets say we have 16 different OPs - you are saying about how daunting it is for them - what about the thousands of compers who use this board!

Fire fox - i think the puzzler and take a break competitions should be listed individually on the main board too - i have no idea why they are in separate threads.

I do not see the difference with whoever finds the magazine comp posting it on the main board, and whoever is running the magazine thread then linking it to that thread - the only 'extra' i see is the person running the magazine thread would have to do a search on the main board rather than the magazine thread.

I do not use any of the sub boards (dailies etc) but as far as i can see, they are all run by volunteers, as with any competition that is posted, and sub board/sticky being run by someone - if they dont want to do it, they do not have to! If i said i wasnt going to post anymore, do you really think the competitions i post will not be posted anymore? No, someone will always come along and take over, im sure there are a lot of people out there who would jump at the chance of posting something as a way of giving back (look how many dupes are posted, then the OP of the dupe apologises and says they were just trying to give something back.

If people like the magazine sticky, it saves a big old list in the dailies (if i understand correctly) i have no problem with that. My problem is that all competitions should be listed on the main board - now we have the cross and tick system, if someone sees a competition they are not interested in, they can just cross it - if they are interested they can enter, and then bookmark or enter by the dailies or sticky, whichever method they choose to use.

And while im on my soapbox - encouraging OPs to put rafflecopter, twitter and facebook in to the title would make the main board a lot easier and pleasant as well, and i know im guilty of this one, and i will endeavour to change, but adding email as well would be helpful.

    Option 1
780 individual comps posted to the main board
780 links to the end of the daily sticky thread
780 links copied to the front of the daily sticky thread

    or

    Option 2
half a dozen or so comps in one post at a time on the end of the mag thread
half a dozen or so copied to the front page in one go
and 1 post in the daily sticky thread pointing everyone where to go

I dont see how you have worked this out - if there are 780 links on the main board, surely there will be 780 links posted in the magazine thread!

My suggestion is half a dozen or so comps on the main board (instead of being at the end of the magazine thread)
Half a dozen or so copied to the front page in one go,
1 post in the daily sticky pointing everyone where to go, if they wish to enter daily, and dont have their own individual way of doing this.

I like the way the mag daillies are posted now and can understand that this is easier for the people posting the comps and maintaining the list at the front. I bookmark the thread and keep an eye on what is newly posted there. I think that what may be even more hidden away, that new members might not find are the Take a Break and Puzzler threads.

I saw this first thing this morning and was fuming, but have been out for walkies now and calmed down

I don't know why you continually have a pop at mag daily thread comping cat; originally I took it on as a way of helping out Glad who was running the Daily Sticky at the time and was being deluged. We trialled it, we polled it, it worked, and now we've even got it stickied, what more can we do!!!!

It was taking a lot of people a lot of effort previously; posting on main, adding link to Daily Sticky, Glad putting the link on the front page of the Daily Sticky, and I think there were only 6 mag daily sites when this changed to a specific thread. Now there are 16 mag daily sites, and 6 clicktowin sites.

A lot of people said they don't do mag dailies and putting each and every one of these on the main forum again would clog it up even more than now, and I for one can't get through them.

Until the day that everything gets posted on the main forum and EVERYONE bookmarks/favourites their own post choices we are not going to please everyone :(

    I'm slightly confused.
Is the magazine thread for daily magazine comps or for ALL magazines?
Is there a reason why the magazine thread doesn't work the same way as the daily thread?
I think I've lost the plot!

I'm just asking for my own clarification.

Cornish, you and the other posters on the mags thread do a fantastic job which I for one very much appreciate. I completely agree that the current system is easier to post and easier to use.

I do my full quota of mag dailies every day, and the extra time that would be added by having to open an MSE thread for each and then click to get to the actual comp would be immense.

They are in no way hidden - it is the very first post on the main board at present!

Following the logic being used here, you could argue that each of the weekly comps in the mags like chat should be given a separate thread instead of just a post headed "Chat issue 43" etc. That doesn't tell you that there are large cash prizes and I missed these for a while when I started.

There is no perfect system, but I do object to accusations that the mag daillies are hidden when many people are working hard to keep them up to date and available to anyone who wants to use them. There surely must be some obligation to new users to explore and find things (on the front page!), and read the helpful instructions.

For the record, hidden would be buried via a link in another obscure post that you had virtually no chance of finding on your own. A sticky on the front page is not hidden.

Would it help if the mag sticky was renamed something like "Mag dailies: Over 700 comps, many for big prizes, listed here"?

    (Rant over - sorry).
