Dyson pricing all over the place

We reserved this Dyson yesterday for £229 from Currys yesterday with £100 off. Many of the Dysons in Currys and Argos have £100 off at the moment, a massive saving over the other stores.

The same machine in Tesco, who have just finished a £100 trade in deal on Dysons is £369, as it is in most other stores.

The Animal version, which has a few more tools, is £369 in Currys and is not on sale, so I presumed that was a better machine.

But on the Dyson site itself, the Animal is 'just' £270, and the 'lower' spec Multifloor is much more at £370.

At full price the Animal is usually about £40 more than the multifloor, except today many of the stores have them at the same price.

The pricing of these machines is all over the place. This is the first Dyson I have owned and I presumed they were a bit like Apple. I.e. if you buy one from one store at £400 you wont walk round the corner and see the same model for £100 less.

But that seems to be exactly what is going on with Dyson. We really like it, but I would be very wary about paying 'full' price for one in future as it seems they will lop £100 off, then put it back on at any point.

If you search this forum, you will find many mixed views on Dyson vacuum cleaners. I agree that they are overpriced compared to other brands.

Thats as much focus as there is I am afraid. I am interested in the extremely variable pricing across retailers with Dyson products.

As I said I really like our one, at £230 it seems like a good product. £370 is nuts though, but I guess people are buying them for that as thats what they are in other stores.
  • I'll be buying my next one from Costco. Those things don't last forever (mine burnt out it's brush bar after 4 years.. but Dyson have just replaced the part for free, which is nice). If I buy from Costco, i can return it after > 5 years if it dies

What about the DC19? Similar specs to the DC39 but it's £179.99 - i'm guessing it's an older model since I can't see it on the Dyson website.

Looking at the specs from Curry's website I can't see any difference at all.

It weighs the same and has the same number of air watts.

    Should be good.
  • Hi,
I bought the yellow Dyson shown at the top of the page about a month ago.
I got it in Currys, and after a trade-in of my old hoover (also a Dyson), it cost £245.
Ok, maybe I`m a Dyson freak, but I won`t change to another brand.
The narrow head means it can go under my sofa without resorting to just using the hose.
The only downside is that the `hose` is rigid, and doesn`t reach all the way up the stairs, and I have to hold the hoover on the stairs with me.
BUT IT IS AMAZING AT PICKING UP DIRT/DUST.
    tOTALLY RECOMMEND IT.

Had Dysons in the past, wouldn't bother with them now.

In fact it never stops working!!
    Removable washable sponge filters???

I think it's pretty obvious when you buy a Dyson you are paying more for styling and the brand as well as the technology.

Miele's are the Skoda of the vacuum world and I do not wish to be associated with them.
