yes i thought it would be. but after my performance today with the 2009 might be simpler to just buy online direct from kaspersky lol

I think that you are overreacting. Just try what I suggested to see if it works. No need to wait for a month. There are lots of trials available to tide you over if it doesn't work.

    ESET Smart Security, for one.

I think the OP is waiting the month so they get to use the full months free trial of Pure 3

yes ESET Smart Security is good, i am even a authorised reseller, but after so many years using Kaspersky on my own PCs i just keep to the same.

Not sure the OP will wait for the month. Sounds like they have itchy fingers.
If they wait for a month and then try it and it doesn't work, they'll have no cover anyway.
I would try it and get it over and done. Then they'll know as to whether they'll need to buy a later edition(2012 onwards dependent on price).

NiftyDigits i havnt got itchy fingers but i had a banging headache yesterday trying to figure out how to get some security lol.
thats handy to know about ESET if i come unstuck again.
think i had pure on laptop year before last, last year just plain kaspersky internet security, since downloading the pure, laptop seems to be taking longer to load when online running slow,
used norton for years till i got a virus and asked them for advice, i had foreign call centre on phone to me trying to get £50 out of me he was relentless! so wont use norton ever again, just to tend to stick to what i am familiar with kaspersky

Yes Symantec Techs are useless, i used Norton IS for 5 years, no problems, then one year i had issues and i spent 3 solid days with their techs on the phone and finally they admitted they did not have a clue how to sort my issue. I was also a symantec reseller. i ended up telling symantec ewhat they could so with their products, and to remove me from their reseller program as i did not want any of my customers going though what i went through with techs that have no clue on the products they sell.
