  • WantToBeSE - If you buy the Daily Record (think it is the Daily Mirror in England) on Thursday there will be a £5 off a £40 Aldi shop. The coupon is usually valid for a week or so. Not my paper of choice but I buy it when it has an Aldi voucher. My husband loves their cheese and onion quiche (£1.09) it came out tops in some blind tasting. Other favourites are their award-winning Oliver Cromwell gin and their wine is generally well priced and good value, with many bottles winning awards. I also stock up on floor cleaning wipes etc.

Glad to hear you are feeling better and hope your car is running well.

Hi Organic Wanabe, thanks for that tip :) I'll have to have a look at where that paper is, as I don't buy it normally. Is the voucher in every week, or just this week?

Asda have just sent me an email to let me know that they have given me a free delivery to use between now and 23rd March. So i'll use that within the next few weeks.

Thoughts: Instead of saving any money this week, which would have been about £100-£120, maybe I should keep that in a separate account (not savings, just my e-savings account) to use for the month ahead. Petrol and food will the main expenses. I cant do without petrol (obviously- I need to get to work) but I have cut my food shop down to £70 p/w instead of £100. Anyway- what are your thoughts on this?

hope your car is running well.

It's running like a dream! Its taking a bit of getting used to, as I am not familiar with things like the sound of the engine, the quietness of the revs etc. Thanks for asking :)

Yes, I think it's a good idea to keep some money for petrol etc instead of putting it away in savings-it should help during the transitional phase from getting paid every week to 4 weekly intervals.

The Aldi voucher is only in tomorrow though they do it periodically, I'll be sure to let you know next time. I always use it to stock up as I usually only go when there is a voucher. I noticed that recently their dishwasher tablets were voted one of the best - so I will put these on my list to try. Your problem is that you are too organised this week, not usually a bad thing!

Shops are obviously finding it tough and are desperate for our custom. Through the post today I received 5 vouchers from Tesco (1 x £9 off a £60 shop plus 4 x £5 off £60 shop) along with a Morrison flier with 4 x £3 off a £20 shop. My sister and I managed to spend 2 of the Morrisons vouchers this morning.

Thanks tattycath- I think its the best thing to do. I am hoping that I will be able to save £500 a month, plus my CB. That will be very tight, but might be possible.

Organic wanabe, I agree, the SMs (SuperMarkets) are finding it tough, and so they should. They have had the upper hand for so long (and still do really), its about time they suffered. Well, lets actually be honest here, they don't exactly 'suffer' do they, they earn millions in profits each year..but every little dent that the consumers can make in the SMs profits, the better :)
I for one have started walking around the SMs (inc. Aldi and Lidl) looking at the products, thinking 'I could make that at home for half the price'. I imagine that many other people are doing the same.

Dinner tonight is Spaghetti Bolognaise. I bought 750g Minced Beef from Tesco last week and typically that'll do the 3 of us about 3 meals (Lasagne-we make a big one and it lasts us 2 meals-, Spag bol and meatballs).
I have some cheese in the bottom of the fridge that needs using up, so i'll bung that on top. Yum!

Only away for two days, back tomorrow, just in time for heavy rain by the sound of it! Oh well, that's life ... WantToBeSE, you've already got a quarter of your budge for moving house, almost! You'll be out of there in no time :)

    Hello Diary!

Today I have chatted to a lady from Barnardos about volunteering, made an appointment for my son at hospital and been to work. Have not spent any money today :)
Dinner tonight will be beef curry with rice and nann bread from the kitchen cupboards.

STILL need to sit down and do some budgeting this evening, I may pop to Tesco and get a bottle of red to help the process along :D;)

Payday tomorrow and I wont be saving anything at all, I m using this weeks extra money to see me through the next 4 weeks until I get my next payment of TCs.

WantToBeSE, sounds like a productive day. I admire your goal of volunteering - that's a generous thing to do with your time.
