What did you 'find out' about cars/driving long after you passed your test?

Conversation with hubby this evening. What did you find out about driving, cars etc which is common knowledge, long after you passed your test?

Hubby didn't know that you could flick your rear view mirror to stop drivers behind dazzling you with their headlights.

Hubby's friend (no, not me!) didn't realise the National Speed Limit changes depending on single/dual carriageways and got a speeding ticket for doing 70+ in a single lane NSL :D

Go on, admit it... :rotfl:

Similar to the dual / single carriageway dilemma: For a couple or years, I used to believe that a local road with two lanes in each direction was a dual carriageway, so drove on it at 70. There was no central reservation, only painted hatch markings. It was 60 all along. Hey, I was a teenager :p

    That's my claim to shame..
    ..next?
  • We used to live next to a teenager who discovered two weeks after passing her test why people took a right angled bend just down from us at 25mph in third and not 50 in top. Only took a bit of bark off the very big tree..............the car went to the big racetrack in the sky.............

When I started driving, getting behind the wheel whilst legless was perfectly acceptable to most people. it was just a matter of not getting caught.

The same with speed limits. Those signs with the white disc with a diagonal black line across them meant that you can drive as fast as you wanted... and we did.

As soon as you get into the driving seat, you're guilty. It's just a question of what.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)

That the government have found a new wallet to empty!

Oh and you need even more space.. to store all the tools you end up acquiring for the jobs you can't afford a mechanic for thanks to the government raiding your wallet..
  • I don't get it... You can flick your rear view mirror? What do you mean?
