Not if you include the price of internet and a phone line at home. Electricity you wouldn't be using if at work and wear and tear on your laptop etc.

Nonsense. Go sit in your local university library during the day. No one will bother you, unlimited internet and computers. That is if you don't have a laptop, if you have a laptop then there are loads of places you can sit and borrow free wifi/power.

Uni Library? We don't have a uni round here. No one will bother me? Really? However maybe I can take a weekend trip to Oxford and pop in! Can I use their phones too? I wonder if they are open now?

I know of no where that offers free wi fi - you have to be a customer surely.

My battery only lasts 5 mins hence having to be on charge all the time.

Maybe you need a library entry card and computer login account.

Where are loads of places to borrow free wifi/power ?

Do people actually not apply for roles just because they don't meet all the requirements? Like for real?

If you had applied to the company I helped run for a job you were not qualified for*, then any future applications you made, for any post went straight to file 13 AKA the round file.

We had enough overheads without wasting time processing reams of applications from people just filling in a quota for their benefits without being in any way suitable for the job, and we did not want anyone on board who had demonstrated their ability to waste resources before they even got a start.

*If you were working towards the qualifiacation or awaiting award of course that was a different case.

No. 'Essential' is pretty meaningless. You should apply for all jobs you are confident you can do, regardless of what the requirements state. I have applied and got job in which I no where near met the requirements. Perhaps they got no one who met the requirements? Maybe I convinced them at interview? Who knows.

That depends whether the essential is a legal, statutory or insurance requirement for that job or not.

Libraries and a few other places often have free internet access, walking there is free and good for your health.

Yes libraries do have free access. I don't know if all libraries are the same but the ones here you have to give a weeks notice, which is doable BUT you are only allowed an hour per day. This is not enough, most jobs you need to apply for online and when you included the search time needed you need to be online for more than an hour per day.

That is a very interesting point. I can understand how to came to that conclusion however what do you expect people to you. I appreciate it is certainly not your fault they are unemployed but in the majority of cases it is not theirs either and they need the comply with the JC rules to be able to afford to live, therefore need to apply for jobs that they may not necessary have all the qualifications for. They are told they must do this by the JC.

The JC staff at my office are not hostile.

They are doing what the WP were doing and that's nothing as they have no power.
