The person posted "I would rather be cleaning than relying on benefits" when the truth was it was working and benefits.

You missed the point but if you want to get technical, the truth was it is working and not 'relying' on benefits - - - solely ;).

Well you did say "I would rather be cleaning than relying on benefits". It's both really.

In-work benefits, to supplement those on low incomes.
  • It's a sad thing that the government subsidises many businesses to pay wages that are so low that it's impossible to live on without government support or working over 60 hours a week" (even more so in London!)
  • The only downside I found with cleaning jobs was that my attitude to housework changed as I wasn't being paid for it.

Other than that, as an agency temp "heavy cleaner", I met a range of folks, worked both on & off record & got other small jobs (like catsitting) & paid off my (then) student overdraft.

For the right money I'll still haul a Hoover to an unknown address & get stuck in - it's got to be better than staying in & worrying about money, life etc.
  • Apart from adverts for cleaners how else could I get cleaning work?

You could print off 1,000 leaflets, and walk round posting them through doors.

Give yourself a company name "Happy cleaners" or somesuch, describe yourself as "reliable, punctual, and efficient", and pitch yourself at a sensible level, and see what happpens.

Agencies. Also keep checking NHS Jobs for Domestics and your local council website for work in schools or council buildings.
