Cleaning Jobs

Last year I worked as a cleaner for the NHS (which involved 2 buses to get to the hospital), for three months. I was paid £130 a week for 20 hours compared to the £71 I was getting on JSA. I have a degree, and an experienced manager. What's you're excuse?0

I had no experience in the cleaning job I am currently in. I just had great rapport with the area manager when she interviewed me. I just said that I was very house proud. She also asked me if I was reliable... within the hour she offered me the job!
It is just how you convey yourself at interview.0 -
Shazza.. I have been following your other post and when I went for this interview as a cleaner the interviewer said that she thought I was over-qualified as well.
When she came to see me again on a regular visit she was made up with my work and didn't know whether to hug or kiss me! LOL0 -
Aww really Free Spirit? That's good to hear!! I'd be more than happy to do cleaning I was just always put off by 'experience required'....well I do love my steam cleaner lol0

Go for it Shazza, you may thoroughly enjoy it, I find it therapeutic. It used to put me off seeing 'experience needed' all you need to do it just show that you really want the job and have what it takes. It is really rewarding and it boosts your confidence when they take the chance on you and then appreciate all that you do.0

I had a part time cleaning job once - it was just doing offices in a cigarette factory. Worked on my own and took great pride in my work - and this is from someone who, at the time, was half way though a degree course and had to take a year out due to ill health.
Go for it. Has to be 100 times better than claiming JSA and having to put up with all the flack that goes with it. Plus, its the satisfaction of knowing you earned that small pot of money in your bank account. It would probably do wonders for your self esteem too

I am a self-employed cleaner. I work 20 hours a week for an agency @ £8 p/h, and 3 hours a week for a private client @ £10 p/h.
So much better off than on JSA. Cleaning isn't my calling in life, but it pays the bills and puts food on the table. I would rather be cleaning than relying on benefits
And I have a degree too. Who cares, a job is a job, and it'll do until the right job comes along.0 -

That adds up to 23 hours, do you get any working tax credits?0
