Morning all, welcome Lowri -
thriftlady - fascinating, agree with you about butter and looking forward to seeing how you get on. Joanna B is a friend of mine and I'll tell her about you quoting her - she'll be thrilled.
Am up to page 706 in TMWQ. Walter has decided to murder Ulrich. I can't wait. Beloved had to go to Barts for his op. on the bus yesterday, my cough is bronchitis apparently, so forbidden to go out and I've an emergency appt at the docs this morning. All plans changed, but beloved is home and despite impressive dressings and bruising, says he feels fine. On 3 July we see the consultant pathologist with histology result, to see if they caught it all (non-Hodgkins lymphoma)
Tomorrow night I'm reading at Hornsey Library (7.30pm, free, cheap bar, jazz and - apart from me - lots of fab poets. All welcome) we're launching our Anthology and I must get my voice back by then. Really looking forard to July 1st when I can read in pubs without inhaling smoke.
But indoors so much am up to date with washing & ironing & HW for once.
Take care everyone, hope the rain falls everywhere except on youAll Art is the transfiguration of the commonplace

Morning all!
PenPen, chicks are sooo gorgeous.
Thriftlady Looking forward to reading your "diary" too. As someone else said, some of the amounts seem enormous, especially the sugar and butter.. but we don't have many cakes and biscuits (DH says he doesn't have a sweet tooth)
LowRob hello and welcome!
Lovely day here today, so hope WM hurries up as I want to hang out the washing before I go out.
Will be loading up the car to go to the tip today, we didn't get round to it at the weekend. DH is working today, so if I can get that job out of the way it means we can get on with the seating area later in the week.
Have to pop to the library to return some books. I've used the online renewal service, but you can only renew online twice before they want to at least see the book again. I can understand why. Anyway, I've long finished with the books, just haven't got round to taking them back.
Want to deliver some jam to a friend who taste tests for me. I've made some Raspberry Jam for the first time in a few years, from new canes. I've also made Strawberry and Champagne jam, never made strawberry jam before. I think it tastes lovely, but I need an independent view. I'm also giving her some of last year's Blackcurrant Jam, and some Pear and Lemon marmalade. I like making jam etc but I only eat a small amount, and DH doesn't eat any.
Will do a quick swish and swipe through the house today, and have plenty of windows open to let the fresh air in.
Dinner tonight is going to be Parmesan Baked Chicken. DH will have chips, I'll be having salad. My next weigh in at the Gym is next Thursday, and I want to at least not have put on weight since last time, and ideally to have lost some.
Will pop back later and catch up again

Thriftlady, I'm another one who will be interested in how you find the experiment. Sorry I didn't mention it when I replied to your PM - I replied to you before I read the whole of the daily thread.
Well, the PTA books took all of 10 minutes to sort - although the books and bank statements didn't match it was all due to one cheque that was written back in February that hasn't been cashed yet. So problem solved. :j
Been clearing through the paperwork in my kitchen. The worktop next to the fridge has become the dumping ground for all sorts of bits of paper, bank statements, bills etc that haven't been filed away, receipts that haven't been shredded, correspondence that needs dealing with, etc. So, I have gone through that now and there are only a few bits and pieces left.
WM is on and the knobs from my cooker are currently soaking in some hot soapy water. How do they get so grubby so quickly? The rest of the kitchen is next.
Listening to the new Genesis cd while I work as we are going to see them in Manchester next month - well, if I'm perfectly honest I'm going to see Tony Banks. He was my first schoolgirl crush and its a crush that is still going strong.I believe the rest of the band will also be there but not sure I will pay them much attention.
Dinner tonight is chicken and bacon tortellini with a hm tomato, bacon and mushroom sauce and garlic doughballs.
Must go and get that cooker sparkling. x"Bad planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."

Gosh, you all sound so organised. Most of the time I can't be bothered at home. Have some lodgers (been given a year's notice to get out, aren't we generous) and I can't be bothered making cakes, cleaning etc. only for them to eat them all and mess everything up and not help out! So I'm just living for the day when my house is my own again.
Having said that, I have a few queries about what is written above.
Someone said something about taking something out of the freezer for dinner tonight? Will it be defrosted in time? Even if I take things out the night before, there's a question of whether it will be defrosted in time? Is there a special method? Never really liked the microwave for things like this.
Also, someone said something about preparing wedges and they are in the fridge? My potatoes also go brown. How are they prepared? This would come in handy so I didn't have to do it when I get in from work.
PS
Dinner tonight is chicken and bacon tortellini with a hm tomato, bacon and mushroom sauce and garlic doughballs.
This sounds gorgeous. Where can I find the recipe?Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

Morning all :hello:
My new computer is arriving tomorrow morning :j :j :j :j That's very impressive service by Dell - it was dispatched yesterday, only five days after I ordered it!
I won't be able to use it properly straight away as I need to get my ex to set it up with MS Office and antivirus software, and transfer some files across from my old dying machine before we can put it out of its misery
Anyway, then I'll be on here a lot more again, and will be back on MSN Messenger too
Other than that, not much has been happening - I had no energy last night so vegetated in front of two episodes of Inspector Morse
Oh yes, my neighbour's loud music came on again this morning  at exactly the same time as yesterday, and with exactly the same music - so I suspect what's happened is that he's gone on holiday and forgotten to stop his music system from switching on as an alarm clock  He seems a nice guy, so I'll just write him a polite note about it and see what happens. It could be worse, at least it comes on at 8am rather than 6, or I would be fuming by now.
How exciting about your chicks, PenPen!

Thiftlady - good luck with your experiment - we had a tiny museum in a local village and one of the displays was a war time kitchen/living room. They had a families ration on display and my kids couldnt believe how small they were. Must admit I dont know how my Nan and everyone else got on.
I remember the 1940's house programme and Magaret Patton came in to show how to streeeetch the rations - genius. Also remember seeing somewhere how to make fake bananas.
Anyway please let us know how you get on.0 -
Morning all (well just about)
Sorry to hear so many had a bad night, but so glad to hear I wasn't the only one! Do you think it was something in the air?Went to bed at 12, woke up at 1:30 for the loo, then at 2:30 when Bailey-cat was yowling his hardest on the inside of the cat flap to scare Invader-cat from the courtyard outside. Shot out of bed as I thought the little kitten might be in danger (he was safe on the bed), and didn't see Invader-cat but from the sound of it running away it's the big Spotted Bengal hunter style cat that comes around here! Bleepin' thing.
Then I could NOT get back to sleep. I had one of those fretting, worrying nights when the brain just does not let go and the world seems so big and heavy. Maintenance man has taken over 20 days to fix tenants hot water  and I'm scared tenant is holding rent back as agent didn't send it on. A known local pilferer was seen in the shared courtyard on the weekend and he's got no good reason for being there and we can't really add any more protection to the area. We're going to get charged for carparking when we have NO way at all of garaging or off-street parking our car. The big lorries are shaking our houses to death (hence stonemason). I still have to clear out my Dads house from when he died last year (amazing how you can avoid that one) ...and so it goes. All seems so BIG in the middle of the night.
Finally dropped off about time kitten woke up to play at 6am. Durh.
Was pleased to be up, bathed and dressed by the time stonemason turned up at 8:15 to repair stone on the front of the house. Not so pleased to discover back drain is blocked and bathwater was flooding courtyard. Was also very pleased that hard work defrosting freezer and clearing and cleaning kitchen stone floor meant kitchen looked almost like a real kitchen for once! Must have more workment in to give me motivation ! :rotfl:
Day bitty and frazzled since then. Talking to stonemason on the front doorstep - door slammed shut locking me out. Had to walk around the block to get to the back alley to get in! Bailey-cat raced in at full pelt an hour ago and still looks very very scared. He's shaking in the house and looking all around him when he goes out. Neighbour that's trying to sell her house (and who gave me kitten to foster) still looking p'd off with me (for not keeping my garden as neat and for keeping the kitten!)
Oh well - at least washing machine is on for 2nd wash and smelly bin is out of the kitchen.
AMIE399 you did make me laugh so much at the duvet incident! Just don't dream of murdering anyone! LowRob hello! PenPin sorry you are having so much trouble.
Now off to see photos of cute chickens. Definately need cute!0 -

Right, I had a quick 10 mins so I thought I'd nip back on
thriftlady - Your experiment sounds great. I'll definitely be following your other thread with interest.
Bargain Rzl - Glad to hear your now back on line
Well I've decided ever since the end of the exams I've gone back to doing nothing in the evenings and just vegging in front of the TV and even though I'm making a bit of an OS effort I'm not really going for it. We've got loads of food in and I seem to be back to throwing things away and I know there are jobs around the house that need doing so I've spent a bit of time looking round and the plan for tonight is:
* Paperwork mountain
* Sort out the holiday
* Make a asparagus quiche to use up the asparagus before I need to chuck it (need to find a recipe!), this can then do for lunch and a quick snack before we go out tomorrow.
* Make chicken, broccoli and asparagus pasta (again to stop me throwing it all out) for dinner this evening. I'm adapting a BBC recipe but hopefully it will be fine.
* Make some homemade hobnobs (from Twinks recipe)
So I have my list, I finish w**k today at about 4ish so there is no excuse for me not getting all this done!
Wish me luck although I may be back later for some guidance. Oh if anyone can point me in the direction of a quiche recipe that would be greatYou laugh because I'm different - I laugh because you're all the same0 -
:hello:Just got back from the lottie, another 1 3/4lbs strawberries!! :hello:
Quite a nice day, sunny but there is a breeze, the lottie is very sheltered so gets quite hot in the middle of the day. I picked the strawberries, dug the bed for leeks and also planted some salad potato's we found sprouting in the shed.
More starwberries still to come, OH pinned down some runners for new plants, we are making a bigger bed starting next year.
Menu has gone to pot this week, liver and bacon tonight, lettuce will be ready Thursday so will be making a quiche to have with salad, must remember I have smoked salmon the in freezer.
Sewing this afternoon, we have a coffee morning tomorrow, so not sure how much time I am going to have.......and Thursday we are off to the lottie again. I will plant the leeks.
No disturbance last night, so a good night, we were bathed and in bed just after 9pm, read for a while, lights our just after 10.30pm.:D
We have just had our lunch, HM bread, cheese and tomato sandwiches, sliced pears and strawberries with HM yoghurt.yummy.............
Right off to sort out the supper and start sewing...........cherrio!!!!!!!!!Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0
