  • You have a threat of violence in writing which was made outside of school. What are police doing about that?

I have to ask OP, are you editing/adjusting some of this a bit to be less identifying? Because I'm very surprised at how you describe the police response, if things have happened as you say they have.
    It happened as I said.

They took the kids name, took my daughters name, she told them what happened, one of the officers asked if we had told the school, when we said yes we had an appointment with them they said they can't do anything it's for the school to deal with.

I asked about the kid having a blade, they asked my daughter how big, she showed them with her hands, they said it's 3" or smaller and he has the right to carry it.

With that they said there was nothing they could do but to keep them informed if it escalates further.

    Off they went.

Thats my thought on it, but we have to see what they say tomorrow otherwise we have no leg to stand on if we get hauled before the courts re truancy.

Simply advise the school and the Education Welfare Officer that you are home-schooling from now on.

It is quite legal and some LEAs provide substantial grants to home-schooling parents to cover specialist teaching and equipment. Have a chat with pipkin

    yes we have.

get a screen shot of the messages - now before they are removed. (the police can work wonders with these screen shots apparently - they may prove to be useful at a later point - and if they have disappeared there is less that can be done, as there is no evidence of them)...

(Press and hold the shift key, and print screen button - then press the shift key and V while in a word document to paste them. Sorry if you are a computer engineer, but the first time someone asked me to do that it took me ages to figure out how to do it)...

print them, and save them on your PC. take the printed copies with you to the meeting at school.

Hope it goes OK, look at other local schools in the area online, and see if there are any places at any of the schools tat you ca get your daughter into...

My sister had to move her oldest daughter, and got the last place at a really good school, the school she left was then placed on special measures and there was a mass exodus due to some issues such as this, as well as shoddy teaching... It may be better to jump ship earlier, rather than later...

Unfortunately I forgot to mention it, we were so focussed on the knife incident.

I'm not going to do anything tonight, I'm writing everything down, printed off the facebook messages, got a picture of a knife my daughter says is almost identical, and I'm going to the station in a calm and mature manner after the school meeting in the morning.

Have decided daughter is not going to school tomorrow other than to the meeting with me, that way I know what is happening. Then she can come to the police station with me and we can sort it out properly.

Do you know your school policy of carry weapons and threats of violence? It should be published in your school behaviour policy, it might be worth reading up on this before your meeting tomorrow, it should be on the school website.

Thats something we have been thinking of, but I work almost full time (34 hours over 4 days monday to Friday) and my wife isn't confident enough for her to teach our daughter.

It would mean the school week being Friday - Sunday plus a bit each evening. Not sure if that would be do-able or acceptable.

Will look into it a bit more.

According to them because the incident happened in school it is for the school to resolve, and the kid is allowed to have a knife as long as it is less than 3" in length.

    Absolute balderdash!

Whilst it is true that police don't like dealing with this kind of situation and normally defer to the school in the first instance/s in most situations, this does not mean they cannot act - Especially if the school/LEA have failed to deal with the problem already. Police are sadly the next most obvious people to get involved. Especially if it has tipped into harrassment/violence or spread into electronic media.

Rather than submit a formal complaint (for now), which will take ages, I suggest you contact your local force and ask to speak to the duty Inspector, who has the authority to do something about this immediately. Make it clear this is an ongoing and increasing problem, then give them a very hard time about why his officers avoided their duty/have taken this so lightly!
  • I'll ask again, were there any witnesses to the incident?

I would expect the school to take the FB posts very seriously, but it will be difficult for them to act on the knife incident if it is unsubstantiated.

on her way home, before she had left the school grounds, this kid pulled her to one side, pulled out a flick knife, and told her he was going to stab her.

Can l ask what happened then, it may be very small comfort but if he was really going to stab your daughter surely he would have just done it without another threat?

In any case, go back to the police as others have suggested, nasty little piece of work. What is the world coming to!

And yes my daughter would be pulled out of that school straight away.

    Happy moneysaving all.
