The police have just been and gone.

They cannot (will not) do anything.

According to them because the incident happened in school it is for the school to resolve, and the kid is allowed to have a knife as long as it is less than 3" in length.

I cannot believe they were so crass about the situation.

Going to complain to the police (not that it will make a difference), and write to MP because as far as I was aware, carrying any sort of blade, especially at 14/15 is not allowed.

We ahve decided that if the school cannot guarantee her protection in the meeting tomorrow we are pulling her out of school.

The police have been and gone between 4.32 and 4.51pm?
  • Carrying knives is very clearly legislated against down to blade length and knife type.

That's true, but threatening someone with ANY knife is still a criminal offence. The police need a massive kick up the !!!!.

    Absolutely.

I'm shocked. Shocked they came and left quickly I, didn't take it seriously, cannot have taken a statement just in case in that time.

    Its all very concerning.

I have to ask OP, are you editing/adjusting some of this a bit to be less identifying? Because I'm very surprised at how you describe the police response, if things have happened as you say they have.
  • Were there any witnesses to the incident?
  • So sorry to hear what is happening.

I've been bullied but nothing like this. My family didn't help me and it's wonderful to see that you are trying to help your daughter.

I can't offer a solution but I would recommend that you write everything down: Dates, conservations, names etc and send it to everyone associated with this.

After every meeting I would write back to the school, official(s), everyone etc documenting want you believe is the actions/outcome. Also don't be afraid to document if you are unhappy with their solution or progress. I would also document that you expect the 'offender' to be monitored (and searched for weapons) in order to keep her safe. I would also send a copy of the letters to the School Board, the police, etc to make others standup and take notice.

    Good luck

I would definitely not allow her back in school, her personal safety is paramount. The police response is unacceptable and please ring back ,seek a senior officer. Make a official complaint about the police lack of action, their behaviour is not legal. The School need to be informed as soon as possible and seriously under no circumstance let your child near the place!

Yep. they stayed all of 5 minutes. Not interested at all, and didn't leave a crime number.

You need to phone the police back and point out the following
    http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988/33/section/139A

It's a specific offence to have a bladed article on school premises without lawful excuse.
Although if nobody else saw the knife, this one might not go far

You could also mention S.4 of the public order act, as i'm pretty sure your daughter was afraid that the other would use immediate unlawful violence against her

pen knives are permitted under 3 inches - however flick knives are NOT - I'd be on the phone to the most senior person at the station and be in at the headmaster immediately.
Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.
