I am back to square one. I plugged the blue cable into the Router but I can't find anywhere on the desktop where I can plug this into. I have 2 spaces near to the bottom of the PC but both are too large for the plug.
As before when I change the cables to the new Router it is still the same. The orange light which says Internet is on orange. I have pulled the Desktop to gain better access but no joy. The blue cable at one end will plug into the laptop but it is the same end as goes into the Router. I did try the other new Rouret but still not able to get online. Me thinks it is just as well to stick with the Netgear as it works at least
Unless anyone has any other thoughts

I was pretty confident when I found this blue cable but did not have time to try it until now/

Thanks again for all the suggestions

I had not seen your post as it had moved to page 2
I have been plugging the cables in as seen on your picture.
I have once more plugged it in and still no joy Can't bet online.
Thanks anyway for your suggestions all of you! The Netgear Router works so I give up and stay as things are. Pity but just not possible Thanks again.

The cable should have exactly the same plug at both ends, otherwise it's not the same cable as in the picture.

Today before I tried to set it up I called to ask what I should do. Told to simply take the cables out of the netgear and plug them into the new Router.

    Sue

one is for network, one goes to the phone/filter.

then login to the router, and enter your adsl username/password

My PC has those at the front (2 USB ports), the hole for the ethernet cable (your blue cable) on my PC is at the back. You should have other things plugged into there like the power lead so have a look at the back of your PC tower.

I have read your inane ramblings several times to try to understand exactly what you are doing wrong. You say that you had not seen my post due to it being on page 2 but you had already totally ignored my previous post asking you a question:

Why do you think that you need another Ethernet cable? In post #1 you said that your took the cables out of the netgear and plugged them into the new Router - one of those was an Ethernet cable.

You should not need to plug anything into the back of the PC, simply change the existing cables from the old to the new router.

If you swap the cables from the Netgear to the Huawei the Ethernet cable is already plugged into the PC - you don't need another cable!

It obviously IS possible. It is a shame that you have given up on this simple task of installing a new router. You have ignored any advice given to you and are obviously doing something really silly yet provide no useful information!

I apologise if you have been offended it certainly not my intention. At the outset I took the cables from the Netgear and plugged them into the new router But the orange light was on and this light had a note above it saying Internet. When I have changed the Router in the past when it went to Broadband.I did not have a problem. Likewise when I got my laptop I managed to set up the wifi without problem.
The blue cable that I have has one end which fits into the Router but the other end is different and \i could not identify anywhere to plug it into.
I am in my 70's and while this does not make me stupid I am not that computer literate.
I have tried several times just to plug the Router in but without being able to get online.
I do not want to give up but there mey be someone I know who can look at it for me I am not ungrateful for the advice given here aand on these boards when I have had a problem you have all helped me to resolve the issue

I have read and reread the posts on this thread. I note being told to log in to the router and to put a password in etc. I have not done this so is this the problem
What I have done is plug in the cables and they are in the correct order I have then just tried to go online without success. I assumed that this is because I have an orange light where all the rest are green.
Not sure how to but it is now midnight and I don't want to start over again so will have a look in the morning.

    Thanks again

an adsl router has 3 passwords

the adsl username and password (without this being entered the internet won't work, wired or wireless), it's your login to your isp's systems

the router administration username and password - there are default usernames and password to get into and change the router settings, you quoted them earlier, username admin, password admin - you would login using this address http://192.168.1.1

the encryption key or password - this is to secure the wireless signal, you can choose anything you want, but it would be sensible to use the same one as last time.

so to get it working, you would take the 2 leads out of the netgear, and put them into the new router, forget about the random blue lead, it's just complicating matters. Add power lead.

then login to the router interface screen using the router admin username and password

then enter the adsl username and password and save/apply, at that point hopefully the internet connection light will suddenly work

You should have some paperwork telling you the adsl username/password - if not, you'll probably have to contact the isp, but you could find out the username by logging into the netgear router www.routerlogin.net

As above. Asssuming you have finally managed to plug in the ethernet cable at each end, you now need to log into the router interface and enter the correct u/n and p/w. Otherwise it will not connect-it won't just work 'out of the box', as you seem to think going by post 28.
I suggest you re-read the entire thread, as you don't seem to be able to follow the advice given or respond to the queries raised.
Failing that, any local PC tech can do this for you in less than 30 minutes for maybe around £25.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
