Sorry I don't know where I would find this I see on the back of the router

    IT SAYS ON THE BACK
    Broadband wireless N ADSL2+ Router

Below it says HUAWE EchoLife HG532 SET UP
    Firmware Version v1.08a
    Hardware Version-B.1.01

Wifi Default Router setting IP address
    Router Username admin
    Router password admin

Does this make it any easier??? Thanks again Sue

Connect it using your ethernet cable (existing one or the one that came with the router, it doesn't matter). Then log into the router interface using the IP address, u/n and p/w you have posted. Go to the relevant page and enter your broadband u/n and p/w-that's normally all that is required. Log out and reboot, and see if it connects.
When that's working, tackle the wireless.
You don't need to use any supplied CD, as this just installs a load of unnecessary bloatware.

Thanks to everyone and if you are not aware I am a Senior which is why I rely so much on you all.
The only cable that came with the Router was a large black plug. Not sure how I was trying to connect but it was with the desktop which I don't think is wireless. It is a small room with a large cupboard where it sits on a trolly alongside the printer.
I bought the printer after I had the laptop when I got the person to come and set it up. At that time I didn't have a wireless printer.
If I was using this would I be trying to connect This I think I would be trying to set it from here
I just took the plugs out of the old Router. Took all out and put them into the new Router but there is an extra plug which says it is Internet This light is orange and when I tried to go online it just said error can not connect.
It was then I called AOL but in the end he got cut off. I then just unplugged and replugged into the old Router and there it stands.
I have another Router sent to me a few years ago and it has been in a cupboard There are only 3 plug in bits like the current Router. Should I try setting it up? Or just as someone says if it ain't broke !
Sorry not to be more helpful

    Colour may be different.

Needs to go between your Router and computer for the initial setup.

Then you can set WiFi up as per the instruction to which linked.

You almost certainly have an ethernet cable either supplied with one of your routers, or already connecting the desktop PC. An old desktop machine is unlikely to be wireless enabled.
You can't plug anything in wrongly, the only ports on your router are ethernet ports (usually 4), a socket for the mains lead, and a socket for the phone cable. And they're all totally different.

Thanks again The only thing that came with the Router was the one you that plugs I thing I had to put these on all phones when I went Broadband. Just looked at the one on the telephone in the lounge. The one for the computer is in another

A breakthrough I had a look in a drawer and found a cable that looks like the one you have shown in the picture. It plugs into the Router and I assume that it should go into the back of the PC.
Where this is at the moment need to pull some things out to get access. I am so grateful to you I would pull things out tonight but I have a decorater coming in the morning and have to clear my lounge. I will have a go at it tomorrow and pretty sure that following your instructions I will be successful. Fingers crossed at any rate Thanks to all and the picture of the cable I knew right away that I had found what you described. The end looked too big but the cable pushed in easily! Thanks to ALL of you. I love my computer and have just got a smart phone so it is a new toy. Just working out what is what but I think it is great.

Why do you think that you need another Ethernet cable? In post #1 you said that your took the cables out of the netgear and plugged them into the new Router - one of those was an Ethernet cable.

You should not need to plug anything into the back of the PC, simply change the existing cables from the old to the new router.

This Router has 4 connections unlike the Netgear has only 3. The cable I found fits into the one called internet and it was here the orange light was on when I tried on Sunday. I think I will be OK with this as it looks exactly like the one posted on this thread
Currently the old one is plugged in. Will have another go later with the new one.
    Again many thanks to all

The number of sockets is irrelevant.

I think that you may have inserted the ADSL cable from the phone line into a LAN socket when you tried previously.

You only need to correctly insert the following three cables as shown below into the new router.
