why would they charge for hub assembly and a bearing?
hub assembly kits come with bearings out the box.
or you can remove the hub and press out the bearing and replace only the bearing.
stabalising links have nothing to with the breaking system this is a bushing to aid anti roll its connected to the wishbone and roll bar (hence called links) and only help with steering componants. http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/renault-clio-anti-roll-bar.
why are they attempting to charge twice? clio links come in packs of two in some brands and around £6-10 a pack.
the only reason to change a hub would be that the bearing has worn so much its also put a groove into the wheel spindle shaft and the new bearing would still have excess play due to the shaft circumference being worn down more commonly found in ford focus and fiesta hubs. not a bulky clio hub bearing shaft.
I think your spongy brakes comes from either leaks in the brake line, low pads, or low on brake fluid, air in system.0 -

The big round bit is the brake disk and the pads are in the bracket (calliper) on the right. The hub is what they're all attached to, but what you said earlier is that they also need to do the hub at another £200.
You have to take the brakes off to do the hub, bearings and links, which makes it a bit suspect that they've claimed to have already done the brakes as they'll need to take them back off again.
Top advice.
How much would you expect roughly all of that to cost?
Does 600 including a half service sound a lot?!0 -
how much? no idea but i can only go off what i've paid and it's a different car... Volvo C70 T5.
Rear disks, pads, callipers and shoes - £300 fitted
Apec front disks and pads -£117 fitted
Hub and wheel bearing (can't do the bearing without the hub) - £80 but were fitted when I had an MOT and a full service. Total cost was about £300...
But it's a mates garage so I pay cost on parts and then reduced labour charges, A Clio should be cheaper for parts though0 -
Of course you can tell them you want to see or keep the old parts - they are your property!
Tell them to put every part they take off and replace in a bag and you'll take them with you!!...
Who wants to put bets on what parts go 'missing'?0 -
OK all, thanks again.
I just got an official breakdown.
Assembly Hub - New from Renault £185
Bearing (Cant use the old one as it will disintegrate when taking it out....so they say)
Break Pads - 70
Stabilizers - 30
Alignment - 45
Service - 81
Labour 200
They said they would do it all for £500....?!0 -
£70 for brake pads for a clio yet they're not replacing the discs? did they say why they're not replacing them?0
-
Hub and bearing sound very expensive as do the pads and alignment (unless it is true 4 wheel laser alignment).
The pads for this car should be £20-30 tops.
Spongy brakes would suggest needing new brake fluid or one of the rubber pipes has ballooned.
If a bearing had gone you should have been able to hear it. Would be very unusual for a hub to need replaced (unless it's had a damn good whack)0 -
Bang your registration number into something like www.eurocarparts.com and that will give you a good idea of how much you can have the parts for, remembering Kwik Fit will be paying a lot less.
Price up the premuim brands and ask what they are fitting. Enquire as to whether they expect you to drop your trousers or not when they price this up.
Interesting that with only a little bit of digging and info the price has dropped £100 already. From £400 + £200 for the hub to £500 all in.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

They said fitted for £70....Just asked about the disks they said they did not need replacing.
Guess who is never going to KwicFit again...especially at the weekend lol!0 -

Yes they are trying to rip you off0
