me too - aren't they just ######
I put the phone down straight away but my kids would stand there happily listening and then jump around shouting that we've won a holiday to America or something - like yeah !! :rolleyes:0 -
I always just lay the receiver at the side of the phone and let the message drone on - while I go and wash the dishes or whatever.
They wanna pay for an international call, let them
Sorry. doesn't help the original question though...0 -
Hi Kazzy, I know its a strange question but do you enter a lot of competitions?
I am ex-directory and signed up to the tps, but I get these annoying calls all the time, and it only started when I entered some competitions on the tv ie. you say we pay on Richard & Judy and similar.
Obviously, I had to give my number to enter the comp,(I think details could be being sold on), and I am convinced that since then I have begun recieving these calls. I never had anything like this previously.
Might be a stab in the dark, but it seems to be to coincidental not to be my reason for the calls.
Hope this helps!!0 -
whats even more annoying is if you aren't at home and it gets picked up on YOUR ansaphone, and then you have to listen to the whole stupid thing to clear it.It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0

I can guarantee that these calls are not the result of entering competitions, they are simply raiding the phone book for numbers. We have two lines in our house, dating from before broadband days when we needed a second line for business and the PC. Now main house number is unlisted and on TPS, study number is in phone book, and on TPS (it was in phone book because of our oversight) the reason I can guarantee we have not given out the number is that WE DON'T KNOW IT, well we do , but I have to use the phone to phone my mobile every time I have to give the number to my ISP.
We never get American automatic calls to our main phone, that number has never been in a phone book (new number 3 years ago), but we do, to the number which no one knows, which is in the phone book.
It sounds to me like Newbie fell for the line they peddle when you connect to the US about the number having come form a competion you entered.Unless it is damaged or discontinued - ignore any discount of over 25%0 -
It's also annoying that some such calls last several minutes. Even if you put the phone down the line doesn't clear at their end, so you want to make a call 3 minutes later and it's still there when you pick up the phone0

Yep I've had loads of these too, generally its a holiday to Florida that I've won lol, I do enter comps but i never put my geniune phone number, I'm ex directory and registered with the TPS.
I contacted BT about it the other week and was told that unfortunately because the calls are international the same rules do not apply as do with companies in this country and theres nothing they can doNobody can make you feel inferior, without your permission
