Yes, they're annoying and their just basically dialling a range of numbers using automatic dialling equipment.

A couple of companies involved in this have recently (in the last month or so) been fined £75,000 for misuse.

Almost as annoying as unwanted sales calls (even though I am with the TPS). When they ask for Mr so and So, I ask who's calling and if it's glazing or something similar I say - two secs I'll go and get him... Then I go off and put on the kettle, have a cup of tea, sit and watch TV - they soon get the message and hang up themselves... If they want to pay for the call so be it...

I think the UK should be an opt in market rather than you having to opt out and the same applies to the junk mail garbage that comes through my door. (All of which is being bundled up this week and sent back to Capital One courtesy of their prepaid envelopes which no doubt they'll get overcharged for... They'll get the hint eventually.
