I used this recipe this morning for Breakfast. Unfortunately, it still didn't thicken up well enough :-(.
Think I'll just stick to the Tesco Oats once I've used up the Sainsbury's ones.Apparently I am the original tight fisted Yorkshire Man!!0 -
Tesco Value - half cup with cup of whole milk. I usually cook in the micro on full for 5 minutes, but when the electric wasn't on Monday morning (!) I used the gas hob and cooked it the old-fashioned way, gently stirring until it was thick & creamy, top with little cold milk in the bowl and teaspoon of golden granulated sugar - gorgeous.
I have tried many different brands of porridge and quite honestly can say that I prefer Tesco Value.0 -

.
Using 3 mins in the microwave?
You have to cook it until it is done, not just for an arbitrary number of minutes. Try doing it on the hob and cook until it is thick enough, or increase the time in the microwave.0 -
We only use water and whichever porridge oats we happen to have in and that works fine. Never measured the water or the time taken to cook... but found cooking it slowly on the hob while stirring gives a better result.“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0

What's interested me reading this is that not one person has recommended Quaker or Scott's Porage oats.:rotfl:
DH makes our porage and when I've bought either of the above they turn out very gloopy.
I used to buy Asda SP and they were great but I don't go to Asda very often any more. Same with Sainsbury's own brand in blue bag, they're fine. Someone recommended Aldi so when I next need to buy some, that's where I'll be going. Another thing to add to my growing Aldi list.:D0 -
When I was a little girl many moons ago the only oats you could buy were either Scots or Quaker as there were no supermarkets around in those days My late Mum bought Scots with the kilted man on the front with the hammer :).I buy what ever I can find at the cheapest price as oats is oats and not a delicacy :) I have bought occasionally the jumbo ones and found them just as nice but less in a packet.Great for Twinks hobnobs though. Porridge is great if you are dieting as they are a good filler up and keep you going until lunchtime. One of my DGS likes the readybrek stuff which to me looks like wallpaper paste, never fancied it myself but each to their own I guess

You need twice as much liquid by volume as oats. Cook it on the hob not in a microwave. Stir it until it thickens.Sanctimonious Veggie. GYO-er. Seed Saver. Get in.0 -
OH has tried Scott's, Quaker, Jordan's, Sainsbury's SO organic, Mornflake organic and Pimhill https://www.pimhill.com from Abel & Cole 2.35 for 850g which are his current favourite. He uses whole milk not water, a teeny bit of salt, a tiny bit of sugar and a large dollop of jam eww0
