UK mobile phone company O2 says from now on, it’ll cost its customers up to £120 a year extra to call the Isle of Man.

It’s decision to drop the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey from its free calls list. UK mobile phone company O2 says from now on, it’ll cost its customers up to £120 a year extra to call the Isle of Man.
It’s decision to drop the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey from its free talktime offers has left many Manx people living in the UK angry.
The firm is blaming higher call costs– but none of the Island’s phone companies have increased their prices.
Victoria Denard, who lives in London and calls her family in the Isle of Man every day, says she can’t understand why she’ll now have to pay extra

Simple. Don't use them. There's plenty of free ways to call "connected" people. Skype and Viber to name a couple.

Manx Telecom and Sure say their inter-network charges aren’t the reason O2 has decided to charge more for calls to the Isle of Man.
Yesterday it emerged the UK operator would no longer include the Isle of Man in its free talktime on contracts – dismaying Manx expats who are trapped in contracts.
O2 blamed higher operator costs here, but both of the Island's mobile phone networks say the cost of terminating a UK call hasn’t risen.
Both Sure and Manx Telecom say they expect the costs to come down in the near future.

Logically Manx Telecom and Sure are not O2, it's a business descision by O2, it's their business to direct as they deem fit, realistically they (O2) have not increased the price either, they are simply no longer including the calls in the inclusive bundles.

That in itself is a price increase.

Since the IOM is not part of the UK, there's no logical reason why it should be included in UK-based tariff bundles.

Many (if not most) don't call those destinations, so their bills will remain the same due to their call pattern.

Why not? Why should a cross-border call be priced higher than a call within the same country? The cost to the network is roughly the same, often lower. O2 Slovakia charges domestic prices for calls to anywhere in the EU and many French networks do the same. This is another example of the British obsession with unreasonably charging anything cross-border at a higher price when it is unrelated to cost; other examples include bank transactions and comprehensive car insurance.

I'm not sure I understand the relevance of your call pattern. We are discussing the effect on those who do call the Crown dependencies, not on those who don't.

Well yes some are discussing that, I see the thread as a slur on a company just because they have removed what everybody else was already charging for, some may leave, some will find alternative arrangements, what is for sure, O2 will not fold because of this business move.
