I have stewed and frozen pears successfully.

I treat them just like apples.

  • Is there a thread going on freezing veg? Looked on the OS index but can't find anything.

Each week I buy up the 'Super 6' Aldi offer and try to base most of our meals around these veg - this week it is carrots, cabbage, new pots, parsnips and onions (also cucumbers but can't freeze those!). I've never really frozen fruit or veg before as it always seemed like a bit of a palaver. I have memories of being a child in the 70s and my mum consulting a huge beast of a book on freezing, everything being sugared or salted, blanched for a certain amount of time....it just looked too much like hard work!

Now, though, I often read on forums that people just chop stuff and chuck it in the freezer.

So, how would I freeze carrots, parsnips etc. etc. (see above list :) ) Can I just chop and freeze or do I have to do something to them first?

Ta for any help and sorry if this has been posted elsewhere :)
  • Just chop, wash and freeze easy peasy x

  • Ha ha, glad it's not just me!! I've been pm'ing an absolute star on here who has kindly been replying to all my veg freezing questions and now have one full drawer in my freezer of:

Carrots, parsnips, cabbage and onions - just washed/peeled chopped
Potatoes to be par boiled and par roasted then frozen individually
Mushrooms to be washed and chopped - who would've thought it was so easy!!

Can anyone add to this for other veg that is washed and chopped and what needs cooking off and how please???

Same here.:T I like lemon in my tea as opposed to milk, so I get Mr LW to slice up the lemon (I'm lethal with knives), then spread the slices on the tray in the top of the freezer, (stops them sticking together) and when they've frozen, just chuck 'em into a plastic freezer box, so there's always a lemon slice for my tea. I can't have drinks very hot, so it serves to help cool it to drinkable temperature, too.:rotfl:
