Deliberately walked through the cosmetic aisles today with the intention of not buying anything. Look, maybe touch, don't buy.

It wasn't easy! But I came home empty handed. Just kept reminding myself that I have much already at home ... can "shop" through my existing stuff that perhaps I haven't looked through in awhile.

Plus, stores with stuff and stuff will always be there ... they aren't going away! When I make a substantial dent in my current collection, I'll have earned the reward to perhaps buy something new.

My declaration here is that I will buy no more toiletries ... NOTHING ... until the new year. I don't need to. Doesn't mean I won't acquire them in other ways (gifts, hand me arounds, samples, work freebies) ... but at least I won't spend money on stuff that will just add to the clutter.

Wish me luck! I expect my willpower to be tested over the next little while ...

That is quite the challenge at this time of year, good luck to you, you're braver than I am!!! :p

I was reading a blog post last night about beauty advent calendars. The blogger mde one by wrapping up 24 things, numbering them then putting them into a christmas gift bag to rummage through each day.

Oh no - but then there's no surprise! That's the hole fun of it! I might make one this year for next, only it's risky because things more gut go off.

I have 1 UU to report: 2ml sample of Liz Earle Superskin Concentrate. This came in the LIB award winners box. WBA as gave my skin a dewey look when used as a night cream.

I'm using this one at the moment in the same size as you. I've used it before and although the results are lovely I don't get on with the fragrance of it. Am thinking of replacing this with A'kin Rosehip which I know maddiemay raves about. Think I'll have to try a drop on my hand first as I am sensitive to rose fragrance.

Ooh sounds like some lovely purchases there. What MAC shades did you end up getting? I still keep looking at the mally palette and the bobbi brown palettes

We didn't buy any in the end but came away saying Emma would have to re-evaluate what she wanted. I tried to steer here towards another brand but she's adamant that she wants MAC so MrM has suggested to her that we buy a palette and only two shadows so far to go into it. She says she would like Woodwinked and All that Glitters.

VALM - your shopping trip sounds nice. The MAC eyeshadows are expensive but they are so lovely, I have about 6 which were £12 each or some were bought when Debenhams had 10% off but compared to the UD palettes they are expensive.

Thanks for your post dolly84. I didn't realise that Debenhams sell MAC as well. We only looked in Selfridges at the Trafford Centre and didn't get into Debenhams at all. Not sure they have it instore there anyway but will keep an eye out online for any good offers that come up.

Fighting talk. Good Luck. So many lovely gift sets to resist at this time of year will make it extra hard.

On the subject of Debenhams customer service if you are struggling for a response they seem to respond quickly on the Beauty Club Card Facebook page where everyone can see your problem and they want it shown as sorted out.

Ladies thinking of doing advent calendars - what about buying one of the little card/wooden houses that you re-use each year and popping something in the little drawers, Sainsburys and Debenhams have the houses for around £15 or you can get wooden ones in all sorts of designs for more money. When DD was very small I bought a hanging one with pockets in a lovely traditional Santa design and I put chocolates in each day, so much nicer than the bought ones.

    I have a uu

Vichy Normaderm Deep Cleansing Gel - 30ml. WBA at some point as it was nice and non drying.

Hello ladies, it's nice to still see a few familiar names on here! I used to post on the original 'No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries' threads back in 2010 and 2011 but fell by the wayside a while ago.

I'd like to join in again for this month please. My addiction appears to have moved on from toiletries to nail polish, so I'd like to get some encouragement to start using up some of my stash and feel better about myself.

I look forward to chatting with you all. :)

PS what's a project pan?

Hi Babafette, welcome back. I remember you too. I too love my nail colour although this is probably the first Christmas time that I feel very underwhelmed by the OPI collection. Am a bit fed up of the liquid sand effect already. For me nail colour is the one make up item that I feel undressed without. I could happily go to the supermarket with just a bit of Benefit Lemon Aid on my eye lids and a bit of lip gloss/lip balm but wouldn't dream of going out with my nails unpainted. Someone at work said that they think I have a strange phobia of some kind!! I try to use my colours in rotation working from a list that I have made up of them and some of them are noticably going down!! Sad, I know.

Have had to repaint my nails today as I went to our rental house yesterday and helped MrM prep the hall, stairs and landing for painting so most of my lacquer came off. I'm going there again today so it was pointless to paint them but we're going to B&Q and our local YC outlet beforehand so .... you see?? So, am wearing OPI Suzy's Hungary Again which no doubt will be chipped badly later and need re-applying/changing.
As I understand it from the way it's evolved in the last couple of weeks, Project Pan on here is not exactly the same as what you'll find if you google it (picking ten items that you must finish before anything else or buying anything else), but it's our new way of identifying items from our stash to work hard on rather than ignore because they're too full/too long-lasting or whatever... HTH :)

I'd love to have the willpower to follow the original Project Pan idea but it sounds too cold turkeyish for me and I'm really feeling my old toiletries/cosmetics buying trend coming back due to the shops being full of gift sets!

    Infamy! :o :rotfl:

Thanks for the welcome back. I've certainly managed to curb my buying since my original posts, I'm just not doing very well at using anything up. Everything seems to last forever.......

I wonder if this is because you may have changed your buying habits and buy products that are of a higher quality and therefore last longer. Just a thought.

This is a really good idea as all the creative advent calendars I have seen have very small pockets plus there's the additional expense of buying a calendar in the first place.

    9. B Pure Micellar Water 200ml - WNEEEEBA (never ever ever ever). Stung my eyes, removed make up poorly, was basically a huge waste of time and money.
    10. Fair Trade Honey 100ml - WNBA, Lush shampoo doesn't work for my hair, just knots it all up.

For Emma for Christmas we bought a Lush Fab Christmas box set (I also got her a bar Honey I Washed the Kids soap, Christmas Eve bath bar and the Penguin bath bar for now), YSL Baby Doll mascara which came in lovely gift set with eye make up remover for same price and Nars Sin blusher. Nice thing about this is that she thinks it's discontinued and wont' get it. Whilst at the NARS counter I saw the lovely gift set of blushers containing Orgasm and have asked Santa for this.

Saw the lovely new Philosophy shower gels and love the smell of the Honey Buns one. Am making a note of this for sale time along with some more Pure Grace.

I LOVE that gift set! I hope Emma will too! I also think that the box is gorgeous (I have a box and tin problem :D ) Shower gels sound yummy. But I have enough lol

I cant find your original post OxfordOwl but I liked it; the one about how much is reasonable to have in a stash.
I am just collating all my items into how many I have of each catergory and how much I have managed to get it down by since September. When I post this I will also post how much I want to have for Graduation and then I will see how much work I have to do :D
