Jordan is a a good bet, I have been 4 times now, twice on business and twice with the wife.
Plenty to do, The dead sea and Wadi Rum are great and Petra is beyond amazing.0 -

I can't see Lanzarote taking up more than a week of things to do -as they aren't lie on the beach or round the pool people and are looking at 2/3 weeks I think it might be a bit limiting. More than a week in Lanzarote would bore me rigid.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -

But not in October -as it is Monsoon season.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I said that 20 years ago and relented once only to have now rattled up over 20 cruises.
Try a 2-3 day cruise on RCCL or Celebrity as a taster !!0 -
Wow. £6K ? What Fun you COULD have. Our Budget is typically £1000 for 2 week for 4.
I suggest a survey of what your kids want from a holiday.
Okay I suggest a European Tour. Overnight Ferry from Hull to Zeebrugge, Breakfast in Brugge, Drive East, to Berlin. 3 days in Berlin. Drive south, to Geneva, and stay on the lake. Go water skiing and sailing. Into the alps, Chamonix, for a couple of days, over the mountains to Italy, Head towards Rome, 3 days in Rome, 3 days on the beach, Drive North to Nice, and MontyCarlo, West to Northern Spain, along the atlantic coast, for a few days, and a ferry back to the south coast.0 -

I am a bit concerned about safety in South Africa. I have heard it is an amazing country but when I looked it up the first paragraph was about crime.
I thought Thailand was a very adult holiday. It seems to be students and young adults partying. Are there more family based holiday destinations within Thailand?
I had thought about the Grand Canyon etc but hadn't really considered multi location. It is certainly food for thought.
Thanks again.
We've taken our children to South Africa many times. We don't find crime to be an issue. Crimes in SA aren't usually committed against tourists. We hire a car and drive ourselves around different regions, flying between major centres.
There are wonderful sights to see, loads of activities to do and the best bit of all, as far as we are all concerned, is going on safari. October is a great time to visit, being spring time so warmer weather, baby animals and whale watching along the south coast.
It's easy to plan a DIY trip so keeping the costs down.
I'm already planning our next trip!0 -
Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza have a well-earned/deserved reputation for fun, family holidays.
A mix of all kinds of activities, you should all be tired out by the time you return home.I love travelling :A0 -

We've just been. Stayed 8 days, did the entire island without breaking a sweat or getting up early!!!Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
We took our then 8 and 6 year old on a 3 week tour of Asia last summer - you could easily do something similar for £6k. Asia is a VERY child friendly place with lots for your kids to do.
We flew UK- Hong Kong - Phuket - Bangkok - Phnom Penh - UK
4 nights HK - we did the Peak, wandered markets, went to Ocean Park (or you could do Disneyland seeing as you're fans!) - loads there.
7 nights Phuket - beach, pool, elephant safari, james bond island trip
3 nights Bangkok - saw a few temples, wandered a bit, went up and down the river (least favourite part of our holiday if honest)
7 nights Phnom Penh - we were visiting friends, so spent longer there, but you could do a couple nights PP and then go to Siem Riep for the amazing Angkor Wat.
Food can be as Western friendly as you like in all those places if kids have palates set in routine.
Arranged it all ourselves from UK - I liked booking hotels in advance cos of the kids, though I know some people advise turning up and seeing what is available. Booking direct with Asia hotels, prices are much cheaper than using travel companies.
We flew between all those places using Airasia - as we booked in October 2011 for flights in Aug 2012 we got them really cheap.
The best was our Phuket - Bangkok flight. It cost £18 for all 4 of us, including 1 bag in the hold, allocated seats and a breakfast each.
We travelled light - 3 cabin bags and 1 medium sized hold suitcase. Looked like ducks through the airports as we wheeled our cases in a family line.
With your budget, you could have a real good time in a lot of places. Go to the library and browse the lonely planet section of travel books - see where you fancy and go from there.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?
