Somewhere different for a family holiday?

Thank you for the suggestions.
I am a bit concerned about safety in South Africa. I have heard it is an amazing country but when I looked it up the first paragraph was about crime.
I thought Thailand was a very adult holiday. It seems to be students and young adults partying. Are there more family based holiday destinations within Thailand?
I had thought about the Grand Canyon etc but hadn't really considered multi location. It is certainly food for thought.
Thanks again.0 -

We went to Thailand in the Easter holidays with a 2 year old and ten year old, was the friendliest place we have ever been too and we've been around. So much to do for the kids and adults. We stayed in phuket so pretty touristy but hotel was the westin siray bay, can't reccomend it enough. We zorbed, canoed, shopped, went shooting, go karting, did all the sites etc etc, not a dull moment.0

I also think a multi stop in the American west is worth thinking about, The Parks generaly I think would apeal to the adults and children. Yellowstone, Bryce canyon, Grand Canyon, Zion canyon are so differant also the cowboy towns and the rodeo and a couple of days in Las Vegas with a bit of though would show you what LA LA lane is like and make a good contrast to the natualness of the parks0

OP - Have a look at Sri Lanka - it's got a bit of everything, jungles, rainforests, palm trees and beaches. Loads of amazing things to see and do (trips around tea plantations, elephant rides, monkey sanctuaries, camping under the stars, shopping etc etc)0

I would suggest Thailand too, there is so much to do there, so much culture to see, you will constantly be busy Also its very cheap out there so you can get more for your money and the people are lovely!0

If we go in October to Thailand it would be in the monsoon season. Will this affect what we can do? I had a quick look and it appears there are amazing things to do but I would be worried that the sea might be to rough for island trips.0
