But that would not stop her running after foxes.. or whatever else comes out at night sighhhh0 -
If you do allow your dog to go off lead, you can get collars that light up - they come in different colours which is quite useful if you have more than one dog or walk with other dogs2014 Target;

Poundshops often do hi viz vests too if you're on a budget. And I know some people have craftifily used cyclist reflective armbands and similar on their dogs, e.g. over the collar if they fit, or sewn onto their harnesses etc.0

Hate this time of the year as the only way I can take Zara out myself is on a lead as can not let her run off the lead in the dark.
Weekdays I mean.
She gets a good walk off lead with the dog walker at midday but with me - on lead only....
Sigh....
Waiting for the clocks change back to what it was before and to longer days
Grrrr
Please don't tell me your dog is off a lead where there are kids around/members of the public?
After having every single picnic this year ruined by dogs (and their owners failing to say sorry) I think it was very selfish of them."fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell)0 -
All those posters who let their dogs run around after dark, how do you pick up after it?"fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell)0

Where I walk my dog there are large amounts of thick tall grass. Lenny loves jumping around in there (he's a springer) and he must do his business in there as I rarely see him do it! Impossible to find and pick up in the light so no chance in the dark. Not that anyone would be walking in the places he goes.
I don't agree with your comment about dogs being off lead around members of the public, my dog has just as much right to use public parks as you and your kids. I've lost count of the number of times kids have annoyed me/ruined a pub meal with their screaming/cryings/general annoying whinges but I don't get an apology off the parents do I? Not so nice when th shoe is on the other foot is it?0 -

I don't think dogs and kids are the same though. How many people/children have been injured because of another child running at them and pouncing/biting?
My little girl now has a dog phobia because of these selfish owners.
Walk dogs off lead if you must but if your dog has a tendency to run off, run up to others, nosy around picnics etc then that is a selfish thing to do IMHO."fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell)0 -
Have to wonder why you're on the pets board...0

And Amen to that.
As to kids and dogs not being the same - you are right, some kids are much worse behaving.
I am sick and tired of their screaming on for example bus/tube as well as in restaurants, running around, jumping etc with parents not paying attention - that ruins MY pleasure of going out or daily commuting.0
